9V 200mA power supply
The controls are:
- Trigger: sensitivity from which the filter kicks in (does not affect the octaves).
- Suboctave / guitar / octave: octave -1, 0 +1. The upper octave is pretty dirty and distorted (I like).
- Square wave: As its name implies. Sound that is close to a fuzz, whose intensity is determined by the volume of the bass and the attack on the rope.
- Attack delay: if you put something other than zero, the sound will take time to reach full volume, ca thus yields the effects of such e-bow.
- Resonnance: set the "Q" filter
- Start / stop frequency: provides a filter effect up or down.
- Rate: rate at which the filter moves up or down, if we chose the frequencies start / stop different.
Note, the gain of the pedal is a rule of origin for a passive bass pickups single coils, but you can adjust it as necessary with the help of a trimpot inside the case.
UTILIZATION
The general setup is simple, in the sense that we can understand what knob does what: the sensitivity, the octaves, the "distortion", the filter ... But it does not mean that the sound edition easy. The mixture of different parameters sometimes gives surprising results, and depending on the settings, the fact of a knob can move slightly change the sound significantly. We must spend a lot of time tweaking the sound to make the most of this pedal, as on a synthesizer in fact, or have fun has turned all the buttons, eventually realizing that it makes a moment ago that s 'fun and you do not always find the sound ...
Of course, there is no memory of different settings, so you have them down on little pieces of paper.
A word about the tracking: very good, but the pedal reacts badly to agreements in general, you just know (although in theory this to work).
To sum up, I put a fair rating but it just means that it takes time to learn to use it.
SOUND QUALITY
Slice of happiness. When I tried this pedal in the store I had obtained that changes a bit crappy of a synthetic fuzz sound, but it can do more! As such the "manual" (3 copies STAPLED ugly crooked) has the merit of giving some examples of settings that help to understand well the effect of various parameters in the grip: how to get her to the Minimoog, Taurus, ARP, Prophet, a autowah, a fuzz ... One can get a whole range of sounds associated with the synthesizers 70 and 80 years, percussive sounds or rather great sounds dub, more or less dirty, effects such e-bow ... Always with an ultra-fat analog color file that banana.
OVERALL OPINION
I use it only for a few weeks. Before buying it I had tried a Boss Bass Synthesizer, and frankly there's nothing to see (the sound I was not convinced and the tracking was rotten). The EHX is neither given nor immediate access to, but it has SOUND. I have not still early but I would do without hesitating choice!
