« a real pocket rocket! »
Published on 06/09/11 at 16:04Format rather small, double cutaway, mahogany body 3 pieces smaller than LP, curved flamed maple table 2 pieces, cream binding, mahogany neck separate head, 22 frets rather medium, 2 soapbar pickups P90 hamer, tunomatic stopbar +, 1 Tone 2vol very effective 3-position toggle. knobs alpha gde size, cabling very neat and well-insulated cavity in the graphite paint and insulation plate. hamer mechanical oil bath simple but very good performance. Mine is a little more orange than the photo.
No vibrato.
is not a Gibson or a PRS but it is done well and we do not see it in the store or in the studio! 9 because it's not a PRS but 9 because the manufacture is very serious for Asian (Indonesia). Hamer, anyway.
UTILIZATION
the handle is rather flat (small radius), rather thin and wide, not what I prefer, but nothing to say, it's very playable and this is very subjective. body thinner than a LP, much more comfortable, lightweight, super easy to get to play on the fly.
The finish is remarkable, it is beautiful, really.
Access to high-pitched almost as well as SG, much better than anything else. The guitar is very easy to play and very balanced.
Quite clear in his neck pickup, great crunch and overdrive in any position.
Good point, the guitar is rather quiet, but seen as it is (well) done inside, it's pretty normal.
SOUNDS
It is a guitar for Riff, blues and rock, with typical grain of P90, silky and grumpy, be careful to adjust the pickup height.
micro soft handle, good mushy and sweet, bridge pickup mrdant good and evil, in the middle, but it means basically overdrive, it's used.
tube amp preference for rendering, otherwise it's quite dry.
I still had to adjust and reposition the jumpers correctly (the former owner was having m. .. the ears!), Tighten the mechanical and reattach the handle ... (nuts not tight!) and adjust the pickups, not easy because not as apparent on LP or strats.
The knobs are very effective and is often not on a guitar of this price, the tone is very useful on pos 2 and 3, it removes excess "low" treble a bit ugly sometimes.
There my friends, we reached the price paid for a big splayfooted and I still wonder if after setting it's worth it to switch to P90 Contest! I still think they do, these pickups are a bit slanted, but not that much.
The sound is good when you push in graillou drive, and the riffs keep coming without fatigue. (No, this is not a contrepétrie ...) It is very exciting, the mind is very LP / SG Junior, the price minus, plus a microphone, and the class as a bonus, it is a killer!
OVERALL OPINION
it scrapes the 14th house, 10th Electric for 90 I play, I love my Burny LP, my strat Japan brought up to my vintage japoniaiseries but this is the finest and most exciting to play. Report QP is excellent when you look good finishes, including the handle is smooth along the frets, a guitar is very serious. it must be new around € 400/450, correct, but at 290 ... this is too beautiful!
best wood would have brought more wealth (and a significant additional cost), the microphones could benefit from being changed for léosounds or real gibson or seymour duncan, but frankly the quality is already very good.
It can play everything, blues, jazz, without too much stress, rock the 60/70 ideal for stones, telephone, Neil Young, AC / DC, blues and more blues, I had tried it first on a mesa stack boogie super top and I was disappointed because the sound was a little dry and restrained, and then I plugged into a Fender blues deville ... and there, slap the total, I cracked.
I play a Peavey Classic 30 with lamps OUR groovetubes marshall + and HP celestion classic lead 80, the best being made an adjustment with the mids a bit recessed, a boutique overdrive pedal marshall plexi type for the beauty of movement or MXR + disto for the slap. What grain!
