«  Plexi! »

Published on 10/10/13 at 10:54
Analog Overdrive designed and manufactured in Germany.

Connectors: 1 In and 1 out, a power supply 9V jack

Controls: Input (setting the input impedance), Presence (medium response), Tone, Drive, Level, Boost (boost level). A switch less / more to determine the maximum amount of gain and a Dynamic Switch (double the supply voltage).

Two footswitch: On / Off and Boost

UTILIZATION

The name is well chosen and clearly sets the tone: Plexi. Nothing to hope it does not sound Vox or Fender or Metal Zone, or anything else. Plexi.
And a Marshall Plexi, it saturates not the masses, is still in very moderate overdrive. The settings are more to adjust the sound according to the gear upstream and downstream to the change.
- Drive, Tone, Level: No need to extend that already handle a Overd
- Presence: response mids. This is clearly a cut (the max is left).
- Input: input impedance level. Gives more or less fat.
- Dynamic: great idea! Shifts in 18 volts (with a standard 9V power supply, however). Increases of course, but also the dynamic headroom, perfect for live performance.
- Less / More: it changes the max gain levels, allows for a gesture two earnings levels without affecting the levels left.
- Boost: boost linear post gain. Used independently of the rest of the overdrive.

SOUND QUALITY

Very very effective! Plexi sounds indeed very accurately. This is both biting and thick, the notes out well, never sound magma. The easiest way is to listen to the sound of Paul Kossoff to know what it looks like.
I plug in front of a Classic 30 (very transparent), it is really stunning. After, I do not think it's magic and I do not know what it is if it is sent in an amp transo ...
With regard to me, one setting: Input and Drive (clockwise), Presence fully (counterclockwise), Tone at 10am.
Input the setting leaves me puzzled by lowering the sound becomes very narrow. After I do not play with microphones overpowering either ...
Independent Boost is useful for lead parts.

OVERALL OPINION

Very effective in the field. Not really versatile.
The sound is excellent and most importantly, it was a real Plexi sound regardless of the volume.
Not given but made in Europe and still cheaper than a Marshall Plexi, as little versatile and not easy to use (must do everything thoroughly to make it sound).
A good investment.
