« Boss OS-2 Overdrive Distortion »

I bought this pedal from Mars Music for whatever the standard retail price was, I don't remember. 70-80 dollars. I had just started playing bass, and I was looking for a pedal that could distort the sound the way that I wanted. I've had it for over a year now, and recently I bought an Epiphone Les Paul Standard (guitar, not bass) and it works great with both.

There are a few things about this distortion pedal that I love. First of all, it has four knobs that you can tune to give you just about any type of distortion. It also doubles as an overdrive pedal, and allows you to use the pedal for distortion, overdrive, or a combination of both. There's never been a distortion/overdrive sound that I couldn't get with a little bit of tuning. Also, like every pedal Boss makes, it's extremely tough and well-built. You can beat the hell out of it.. When I was practicing with a band once, it actually got kicked hard and it smashed into a concrete basement wall. Plugged it in, it worked fine. This pedal will never, ever break on you - and if it does, Boss includes warranties with every one. But hands-down, the best thing about this pedal is that it works great with both my guitar and my bass. Don't bother with separate bass distortion pedals.. just buy one of these and you can use it for anything. I've even plugged it into keyboards. You can do insane things with this pedal if you use it right. I can't recommend it highly enough.

The price.. it's an expensive pedal to buy new. I'm sure you can find them on ebay or in a good (i.e. non-chain) guitar store for much less. Shelling out that much for a pedal sucks.. but it's worth it, no matter what you pay for it.

TOUGH. I don't think it's possible to break the thing.. it's gotten stomped on, jumped on, kicked, slammed against walls, and it still works great. The quality is absolutely top-notch. Boss pedals are also really nice-looking. This one comes in bright yellow, which is okay.

If you want to use overdrive or distortion effects, regardless of what you play, buy this pedal and you'll never have to buy another one again.
