UTILIZATION

very simple, drive, gain, tone, it's easy

SOUND QUALITY

I use the drive with at least a bass (warwick corvette MEC preamp) I get a boost that adds presence and grain, without messing up the whole, we discern the best bass without hiding the other instruments ; it's super quality
no breath, true bypass

OVERALL OPINION

I use it for 2 weeks, I have to look at the Xotic BB preamp bass, but already my mind is made: it's a great pedal. It's not always easy with a low active, find something that slightly boosts the sound and presence without any explosion.
I tried the home bassdriver SansAmp Tech 21, the distal EBS, the SansAmp confuses presence and treble, this preamp does wonders to improve a sound from a small bass amp and a low range, but becomes useless on the big stuff right, but BSE is cold, and then the 3-position prevent him from making a final choice, and ultimately, we do not know where to turn.
I also (and unsuccessfully) tried to resolve the GT6 bass preamps, home boss. They are unusable with a low active.
Frankly, for the price, we do not regret having one on hand.

The Maxon OD808 features the few characteristics standard to a typical ‘tubescreamer’ overdrive, including

UTILIZATION

Using the Maxon OD808 is quite simple. Depending on your settings, I can be used as a stand alone overdrive over a clean sound, or a boost over an already dirty sound of an amplifier. Hook it up, turn it on, and go!

SOUND QUALITY

The Maxon OD808 is easily my favorite of the tubescreamer clones. On its own, it produces a nice and warm overdrive, and can produce a decent amount of crunch even on its own. My favorite application for it is using it as a boost over an already overdrive channel. Setting wise, this is gain off, level up (anywhere between noon and full on depending on the amp), and tone to taste. It pairs amazingly with the gain structure of my Mesa Boogie amplifiers. When running it with a Rectifier, for example, I boost for a much tighter and more response rhythm sound. The tone becomes much crisper and clearer, as the pedal brings out a little more of the midrange, and cuts some lows, which is EQ curve that definitely helps a rectifier. With my Mark IV, I love boosting the lead channel for an amazing smooth and saturated solo tone that just screams. A third application altogether is to boost a medium gain sound for an alternate high gain sound. Whatever the use, the Maxon OD808 delivers beautifully. A final plus for the pedal, the Maxon adds very little noise to my signal path when boosting, which was a problem with some other pedals I had tried before this one.

OVERALL OPINION

This pedal is one that every guitarist should own for an additional texture of gain when needed. It is a great tool for adding that little extra ‘something’ to your base sound.

Maxon has always been working on conjunction with Ibanez when it came to producing overdrives. Whether it's a partnership or rivalry, I'm not exactly sure; I'm not quite up to par on the history between the two companies. However, they both build very similar overdrive pedals, even down to using the same components. The OD808 is a TS808 variant, but it's not exactly the same as the OD808. For one, it's actually a TS10 clone, but I'll get to that a bit later in the review.

UTILIZATION

Maxon housing are pretty much bullet proof. In fact, I like these housings more than the Boss housings. One thing worth noting is that, despite the mechanical switch, this is not true bypass. This pedal does suck a little bit of tone when bypassed. Unfortunately, due to the way everything is wired, making this true bypass isn't a task for the novice. If you're not completely comfortable with a soldering iron, I recommend leaving that to a professional. Another thing I'm not a huge fan of is that there is no LED indicator. Aside from that, it's pretty much the same as any other pedal.

SOUND QUALITY

Like I said above, this is actually a TS10 circuit. That doesn't mean it sounds bad; it just sounds a touch different. I find them to be a little more compressed than the TS808. That actually leads to a better metal sound, IMO, As a result, this pedal is used quite a bit by heavy metal bands such as The Absence, Killswitch Engage, Unearth and so on. Aside from it sucking a little tone when bypassed, the pedal is nearly perfect. A few people offer mods for this pedal, but I'm sure you'll be happy with it in stock form.

OVERALL OPINION

If you're looking for a good overdrive pedal, I recommend checking this out. These things are very reliable, sound great and are fairly easy to come by. About the only downside is the price. They're a little more expensive than something like a Boss SD-1 or an Ibanez TS-7, but if you're not looking to modify a pedal, I recommend buying this. This was my main overdrive before I started getting into pedal modding.

UTILIZATION

The setup is simple, one button for volume, gain and tone, the manual is quite clear but in English!
Easy to use more manual configuration provides for roughly the sound you seek.

SOUND QUALITY

The effect is very effective, a priori, rather it is a petal to have the Blues, or to add gain to saturation, or Bosst an amp.
I use it with a Gibson Lespaul of the Week (rise in EMG), a Fender Telecaster Jim Root (EMG) and an amp head and body Mesaboogie Rectoverb Raodking mesa 412.

OVERALL OPINION

I use it for a week.
I tried a dozen overdrive next to this one but I preferred this one at all.
I chose this one because I play mostly metal / hardcore ... And I used this pedal over the high gain on my amp, and in fact she corrects me all the faults of the amp. My pedal setting: Gain: 0, Volume: 5, tone 5. I do that serves as a boost, it grinds me the bass that are less stun (for there are many with a loudspeaker mounted on a mesa mesa RoadKing 412) it gives me a little more than medium, it cleanses me sound, I sound very clean and very precise shot.
The value for money is perfect for my taste, having seen other more expensive pedals and do not give me satisfaction.

SOUND QUALITY

It's simple and roughly vintage with beautiful grain.

I use it on a TV and AC4 Ultra Epiphone LP with Seymour Duncan and push / pull.
The 808 blends really well with that I, the grain is sublime, his warm
documentation provides typical settings to Smith but not panic is a very simple pedal, roughly generous and nuanced effect.

Basically I used to work at home in 1 / 4 or 1 watt on my AC4 and have a grain and crunch. I am now finally in 4W and the 808 is still there so I like the sound it brings.
I tried it with a lot of guitar (not mine unfortunately) N4 Bettencour Washburn, Music Man Axis, strata and its always filled me on my AC4.

OVERALL OPINION

I use it for more than 6 months and every day.

I tried the BOSS, but I was convinced, that's a matter of taste and it's personal. I was looking for color and sound good vintage rather than the fat saturation.
My playing style is Blues / Rock / Funck

I love the finish, overall quality and its type TS9.
Bought second hand at 90E, I do not part with. Even at 130 in nine is a very good investment.
Do not miss out on without trying

any analog pedal or overdrive boost, you should know that this pedal is true since ts 808 ibanez maxon pedals manufactured at the time.

UTILIZATION

I use mainly clean boost I play several guitars, Gretsch, Telecaster and Gibson, Vox AC15 in a pedal I use a lot of fuzz and OD (lamp and germanium) and whenever j'enclanche the boost it increases the gain of the natural amp or pedal. In my vox in clean, I get a bluesy crunch unsuspectingly in my big ben I spend a punchy crunch to an OD at ACDC and my English muff'n I spend a little fuzzy Marshalian its true and OD fuzzy, awesome what this pedal is completely necessary to play in all styles.

I use it for a couple of years and the pedal is essential to my pedalboard, I tested a lot of boost and OD in the tradition of TS among HBe y had a quite a few opportunities over (an integrated boost and a switch that changes the tone of the action), the Ibanez is the same but looks less solid, VS has released a lot of double trouble I OCCAZ did not get to test it corespond 2 TS to the SRV, personal one is enough for me so I am very happy with my pedal. If I do it again this election?
