« The alternative to TS9 »
Published on 01/30/13 at 05:54Small orange pedal with 4 knobs adjusting the bass, treble, volume and gain. This is an overdrive and / or boost preamp, as indicated name wisely!
The finish is very nice, neat, but with a little side story Hand-made to flatter our egos, and other crises GAS
I should point out, and I think it is exceptional for Xotic, I had a few problems that, if I believe the lack of respect on the forums, are rare capricious switch (I had to go at once of "tatane"), loose knobs ... a walk in the cheap technicos (switch nevertheless changed the wrong part of origin), and no worries since.
UTILIZATION
When we used to integrate a TS9 in his rig, adaptation is easy! Just have to learn to take the best combinations of settings knobs to "turn on" the preamp. On the choice of weapons here: either the bass, treble, master volume or gain to any smooth or compress.
Nothing wrong if it is ... the absence of medium. Now there is a model with the mid-boost, which in my opinion offers a broader comprehensive as possible, because we would also be able to attack by the mids.
SOUND QUALITY
It did the job! That reproach him again? We do not have a huge headroom, just enough for a light OD to Robben Ford, for example (note this is not the color "Dumble" Hermida Zendrive there is that does this to wonder). Say Eric Johnson would be a better reference then! Use only a clean channel, overdrive was enough U.S., rather "wise" and "clean on him." It will be more clear and defined a TS9, much more efficient on a crystal clear sound. On a clear channel driven, starting cruncher or compress, then it will be a matter of taste between the TS9 and the BB.
As a booster, check your interest as an alternative to the TS9. Capable of more gain, it will add much to gain, and color will give a more modern (and I do not mean necessarily "metal") a JCM800 2203. It also is more transparent, much respect the color of the guitar (where a test with his instruments required before purchase). Icing on the cake, despite the "gain" "gain" compared to a TS9, was also strangely less breath. So that's all good BB Preamp?
OVERALL OPINION
Very good stuff, no complaints. But without having been specifically conquered purchase, I do not see the benefit of this pedal in my game I like the color of the TS9 obvious, even to bear the inherent breath. I think this lack of BB Preamp soul side, even if it is more professional and flexible in its use, its uses, and in many aspects.
I'm more of a "Marshall Guy", and I do not think BB glue better with that sound. She has no trouble with Fender, but it must not be bad in Mesa or Orange, which are nevertheless not my cup of tea!
A good pedal to do what you can not do TS9 or ideal if you hate it! It is a matter of taste. It behaves well with all guitars, all amplifiers, with some better and some, obviously. But I prefer to look elsewhere, or take me another TS9 (for other settings?), Why not AC Booster? But I intend primarily to say hello to the Dunlop Zakk Wylde, plant breath he is, but what a sound!
