« Excellent portable amp and mini boombox »

Best value: Excellent
Audience: Anyone
I play jazz and pop (I actually play anything, except metal, although...).

This amp is excellent for practicing. If I use it with batteries, I can take it from room to room in my apartment. I plug in my Samsung or I-RealPro to play along.

Both the clean and crunch sounds are excellent. Metal sounds are nothing to write home about, but using a good overdrive with the clean channel will certainly do the trick.
It sounds like a good clean solid-state amp. It respects the sonic qualities of the guitar.

The digital reverb is crappy at low volumes, but you'll forget the cut-off of the noise gate at higher volumes.
The rest of the built-in effects are very good. I use the built-in compressor and the sound remains natural. I don't need any other effects.

I really like that it can be placed on a mic stand so that it's at ear level. That way it sounds better and you only need to set the volume accordingly so you can play at any time of the day or night.

I think its better than the Yamaha THR in terms of quality, because the latter is too digital, too tight, in my opinion.

The SoundBox mini sounds like a very good solid-state amp, somewhere in between the AER, the jam 100 Shertler and the Jazz chorus, but in mini version. You can get multiple clean and crunch sounds. It sounds just as good with single-coils (Es 330, Fender Strato, Tele) as with humbuckers (SG, ES 135 Gibson).

The amp works perfectly will all sorts of pedals! (so you can do anything with a good pedalboard).

And you can plug in a mic, a keyboard, a bass...very handy!
The two speakers are by no means a handicap to play at home or jam (it's obviously not a Twin Reverb...).

I think the youtube videos don't do it justice, because the clean sound isn't really showcased. The presenters usually rush to display overdrive sounds and that's not where the Soundbox shines most. It's better for clean and crunch sounds.

Its portability and compact size make it easy to take it anywhere with you.
Vox went with classic and reliable connectors: Jacks (instruments) and mini jacks (headphones, line out and aux in), rather than investing on a stammering and unpredictable Bluetooth to end up with overcompressed digital sound.

The output power is enough for a piano-guitar duo or even piano-guitar-double bass for an improvised jam in a bar. For a more serious gig I'd obviously take my 15Watt Fender SuperChamp or my Schertler Jam 100.

On weekends in the countryside I simply connect it to my laptop and I can continue working on my songs plugging in my guitar.

I recommend it to guitarists looking for a clean, or even crunch, sound. It's perfect to practice, to rehearse at home with a guitar duo and even for small gigs in town.

Try it out.
