«  Mics very convincing! »

Published on 04/23/12 at 23:28
Having the desire to get me a vintage strat to specs without going through the custom shop of Fender guitars with their Euro 5000 and having neither the means nor the opportunity (being left-handed) to type in the real vintage, I decided to make my guitar with me.

Once the parts ordered from Warmoth and Callaham, I asked myself the question of microphones. I've been around all that existed, and I was seduced by the set of 60 Tornado MS. Contact with Marc is very well, making the height of the microphones with pad for left was not a worry nor a surcharge.
The time is very short, since only a week of waiting. The price is also very good, since it's just the pickups cheapest I found, and wound by hand in this category rather "upscale".

And so once the guitar plugged in?
Well no regrets that's for sure!
A character very different from what I already knew with the Texas Special. A clear but crisp with micro bridge that sends and handle rounder less aggressive, very Strat 60 years, who can really evolve according to the height adjustments of microphones. The sound is also very convincing in overdrive.
For data you an idea, I quickly managed to have a sound to the beginning or during his gallagher it still not too saturated.
It also happens very quickly on the Frusciante. Plugged into a FuzzFace, with the proper delay and chorus, I managed to get close very close on his Gilmour Time, after I missed the good jute fingers ...
For all that is Hendrix, you can darken your eyes closed, after be behind the pedals.
On the intermediate positions, the sound is perfect for rhythmic accompaniment.
With these mics can really have a support group without making too much noise and then switch to solo mode and send heavy, it's really nice and it is also quite rare.

So in summary, good microphones, which do honor to their name, it is full of in the 60s. And for those who want to approach a vintage Strat, tripled the Warmoth / Callaham / TornadeMS is really convincing, less than 1000 euros for the whole, there is a quality that pays several thousand dollars at Fender, see ten thousand euros for the Mayer Strat as Replica, I tried, and which are not the best quality.
