I just got the Grado SR-60 operated in the United States, paid less than € 60 with shipping (where we find it less than € 100 in France ...).
First impression, a simple design and vintage that commands respect, the headphone is lighter than I expected and molding plastic is a bit cheap, a simple but really effective, the headphone is easily adjusted on the head.
Second printing, the quality of sound reproduction is exceptional (especially at this price), it really flatters the ear immediately.
The sound literally breathe, good overall balance, treble and midrange are particularly detailed and are immediately notice on pieces we used to listen, the sound is very clear.
The bass seem to slightly miss presence at first, in the sense that it does not compress the eardrum (as could a Sennheiser closed entry level) but they breathe well and are made with superb precision, no BassBoost gadget and it's less tiring to the ear.
The only downside is the comfort for long listening foams are dug slightly wider than the ear, ensuring a good distribution of sound but if you wear glasses thick enough to branch like me, you will feel discomfort .
Another point that may be a disadvantage, the headphone is very open, your entourage will hear the music you listen to, but hey it's the price we pay for being quite balanced and breathing deeply.
I'm using for over two years Koss Porta-Pro, a good headphone value pretty good if purchased in the United States (about € 35 including postage, more than € 70 in France)) but unfortunately very fragile, very limited life span if used every day and we tend to have a hectic life. Mine and a friend held a year before the crackling due to a degradation of the audio cable connections to the atria (force to pull the wire or twist) is heard until the wire disconnects completely (and can not open the headset to solder or reconnect).
I also bought a headphone closed discreet Sennheiser PX-200 recently for € 12 including postage from China (at least twice in France), lightweight, ergonomic hyper (folds easily, comfortable during long hours of listen (even with glasses) and strong despite her fragile. Resolutely mobile, perfect for outdoor use and in noisy environments.
Joints mobile and wireless headphone jack will not suffer from lack of connection as the Koss Porta-Pro because they are equipped with rigid ducts at the joints.
The sound seems a bit stifled, the fact that the headphones have a very small circle over the surface of the ear and the leather-like comfort to make a seal tight enough, because a "plug" is felt . The low volume of air trapped between the ear and the speaker rather hollow, but very few large pressure created a little embarrassing for me at the outset that used an open headphone Porta-pro. So I use it mainly to listen to electro or minimal Drumb'n Bass at which it is very effective.
I have the KOSS Porta Pro and Sennheiser PX200 as a comparison but the Grado SR-6 0 has no proportion to those two, it is clearly more audiophile.
I would say the Porta Pro is a distant cousin because of its similar design, open, while the PX-200 is quite a different family. However because of its thick enough and long cord (2m), its very generous foam can be real sponges rain, its open design allowing your close neighbors enjoy your musical tastes, the Grado SR-60 seems to be book for use sedentary at home, rather than mobile use outside.
