Model Rack. For the main features:
- Level hardware, while an aluminum housing, lightweight for convenient sizes, with 4 output jack, two jack inputs + a plug for the microphone supplied with capacitor
- In general: 256 presets, 32 drum kits, 16 memory locations for recording audio clips in Vocoder (formants).
- At a preset: 4 of 4 Stamps assignable midi channels, two steps * 8notes 32pas sequencers, effects master, a vocoder (carrier signal on a stamp, modulator via audio In, audio recorder internal or In)
- At the level of a stamp: 2 Osc (Different waveforms + PCM + Audio In) + Noise, 2 filters (one filter that is "morphing" between GMP, LHF, HPF, and one which Thru who can to the "comb"), three envelope generators, two effects, three modulators. Several parameters to add color or punch her (Detune Analog, Analog punch, Unison, etc ...)
In short, a virtual analog synth with more than a full rhythm section.
UTILIZATION
Can be used immediately in the machine for basic use (select a preset and play), but this is not his interest. Quick note: I do not know who wrote in a forum AF it might be a good synth for beginners, but I have to say: beginner who has time and energy to mobilize their learning!).
In fact, you must know by heart the menus, submenus and architecture to advance. To my taste the strength of the floor appears at this time: an effort directed learning is a pleasure to browse through the control surface to create its sounds. Editing is natural, fast, ergonomic ... I spend more time, I feel more fun to use. Many front-panel controls, the pleasant feel, and a few tens of minutes we go from preset default sound we wanted to program.
Edit Mode On / Off:
Korg had the excellent idea to have a mode "Edit" can be activated or not. Edit in off, it features front access only, which is very convenient to play and not program their sounds. In Edit mode off:
- Only the position of a potentiometer on the front panel informs you of its value (no display)
- Only the parameters relevant to the game are accessible (eg modulation sequencers modifiable in real time, all parameters of oscillators, filters, effects / cons-examples: audio bus configuration, ADSR curves log / exp / linear etc.).
- Ergonomics Off Edit Mode can be set by program (types of information transmitted by the flashing buttons, stamp (s) editable (s) by the control surface).
Mode "Edit Off" is used to record a song or play live. I do not live, but if I can do one day, it will be the ball!
The use is the main strength of the floor. Nothing to talk about it, I want to go home fiddling with his pots.
SOUNDS
The sounds are excellent, if you want to make a synthesis! If they are not too bad, sounds of the bank PCM are not there to be realistic, but primarily to serve as a waveform in the oscillator.
Illustration: the PCM sound chosen is a parameter of the oscillator 1 modifiable in real time, direct access to a potentiometer and / or a modulation sequencer, as many times as you want per second. This allows for unusual sounds, but it has nothing to do with a sampler (forget Steinway)!
OVERALL OPINION
I tried before I decided a V-Synth XT and a Virus Indigo.
+ The wealth of possibilities
+ The beauty of the craft, while aluminum, and style (you are the captain of a spaceship)
+ Ergonomics unique (each flash is useful!)
+ The drum kits
+ The modulation sequencers modified "live"
+ The steps sequencers with editing "style groove box" or direct recording very effective
+ Voice Recorder sequences in permanent memory
+ The pleasure of playing and programming
- No routing effects on individual instruments drum kit
- The factory sounds are of uneven level, sometimes eye-l'oeil
- The step sequencers do not have a pattern selector (I am very surprised to be alone in that it lacks: it is a real challenge to program sequence variations in the score with 1 (one) pattern per program!? must change the drum kit, playing with filters, wire parameters, transfer successively the instruments to get them to a minimum of rhythmic variations)
- The step sequencers do not have a pattern selector (you can tell me what you want, it's a shame)
I am fairly confident about the appearance Groove Box (a mc909, there is a pattern selector!).
You may say I'm off topic - Korg marked 'synthesize / vocoder' on the box, not 'Groove box'
I say yes, but nothing really miss 3 times, which is unfortunate.
To summarize: I have two months, and I spend a dozen hours a week. It was not exactly what I thought, but I spend hours on it, the more I want to spend more. It is an instrument that makes you largely level of fun time that you will devote to it.
