However it should be noted that with a recent OS (there is at version 4.1 - http://www.novationmusic.com/ ) we obtain a third waveform ("double saw" ..) and nine types of filters in addition to the classic "low", "band" and "high". For the latter, three slopes are available (12, 18 and 24 dB)
For fans of hot sounds, note that the "filter" has an overdrive.
Also note the presence of a programmable arpeggiator very effective.
Finally, we emphasize strongly enough the great utility of the eight outputs!
UTILIZATION
A quick glance at the manual to understand the principle of the block "modulation" to own this synth and you can start working its sounds. Nothing is easier and more intuitive, as a facade is, each parameter having its button or knob. In addition, manipulation of one of these buttons or knobs automatically display the associated parameter in the display lights.
It is not far from perfection in ergonomics!

In addition, following the remark of an astute reader, I must change my opinion here: I blamed because the original Supernova to be common syndrome of "jump potentiometers" may make its use problematic live. Now there is the menu "global", according to a "pickup" in which a potentiometer only returned to action only when it reaches the current value of the associated parameter. Finally, all parameters can be controlled from a sequencer via MIDI. The use of this machine is therefore only of happiness: 10/10!
SOUNDS
The sounds in this unit are the best. Less abrupt (albeit at great shots ring-modulator and comb filter, it is possible to achieve sounds quite violent) That a Nordlead, but much warmer.
If we had to compare its overall sound to analog, I approach the Matrix 6 Oberheim and 12.
Often cited the quality of its ground but the leads are also excellent, that they prefer fatty or acidic.
A more fundamental to me (especially my ears): The ultra fast envelopes that allow a definition of his remarkable, especially in the bass.
The effect section is its role, with the exception (no surprise) of the reverb, very metallic and use sparingly. But the separate outputs advantageously allow our router to a sound external reverb.
OVERALL OPINION
For over six years that I use this synth with happiness. I dub, and I am often asked how I get my "mega bass". Answer: With the Supernova!
Its ease of use and intuitiveness makes me use it every day. It's really, with my samplers, the machine that I can do without.
If it was initially quite expensive, its bargain price, between 400 and 500 euros in fact a bargain.
One concern, however: In the long run, the buttons light, so convenient (and attractive!), Prove fragile. I advise you not to dive this machine in a smoky atmosphere? And if you purchase, please check all the buttons one by one in number is tedious, but essential to avoid unpleasant surprises.
