Excellent
Even if I knew them to be heard on numerous occasions in a lot of studios and since the mid-90s, their purchase was made by chance as the base I had gone to buy me a pair 1030 (below the waist) but I got a good price from the dealer for the 1031!
I use it in my project studio for 10 years now. I had the opportunity to test in 2 different locations who moved my studio. Originally my cabin was quite large and in 1031 were at their ease, since my move, my cabin is much smaller, and I would say they are not necessarily well suited to this new piece. Actually somewhat exaggerated.
The amplification is incredibly effective! You leave the room before he could put them at the bottom!
I sometimes use a sub Focal listening in "comfort", but never in the sub mix, only in 1031 and possibly a small pair of Tannoy alternative for listening.
SOUNDS
As always the sound of a speaker is subjective and dependent on the acoustic quality of the room in which they are used, but the 1031 can undoubtedly be considered a reliable tool for monitoring. But be careful, these speakers should be positioned with great care, otherwise the result can be catastrophic - I know what I'm talking about because I have paid the price by excess precipitation during installation, I had to correct the thereafter with shooting method. The frequency response can be changed using mini switches, and of course it is also absolutely necessary to make the right settings depending on where they are used.
Their analytical quality is undeniable, the dynamics of what is recorded is rendered perfectly and the stereo image is impeccable, although generally the best will be made in a piece of medium to large size, they have "the air "around so that they can fully express themselves.
I could just blame them that they generate some listening fatigue which in my opinion is due to a certain hardness in the upper midrange and treble.
OVERALL OPINION
10 years of loyal service ... They are well sold at one time, yet they are difficult to find on the second hand market, which says a lot about their qualities. Many studios are still fitted today. It's sturdy, very well made, very strong and reliable.
However, they are not for everyone! I do not recommend it for use purely home-studio, you may be disappointed (the 1030 are definitely more appropriate in this case). However, if your studio is quite large, they can breathe and speak, and there is only happiness. Go for it.
