already explained above,
but I'll add that I still find it technically very close to a string machine ...

From a strictly technical point of view it is fairly basic, some are even simpler feature (no dedicated ADSR envelope filter for example)

Aesthetically it is conceived of finishes very strong contrary to what may suggest the pictures on the internet. (Metal shell, heavy duty plastic frames, thick wood below)
But the weakness comes from the inside with a choice of components coarser level of strength, the first symptoms are visible from 2, 3 years.

The mine began to feel ill but I'm still able to overcome the major defects.

UTILIZATION

I love her look teenage eighties, the touch keyboard (reliable because very simple, so no traces of contact problems on all that followed) and the choice of the name of the synthesizer by Roland (Juno is a moon of Jupiter, JUNO series representing the midscale portion of the mark against the JUPITER upscale, nice coincidence!)

JUNO106 The interface has a clear and well organized to understand the type of synthesis called analog,
Others have pointed out, it is very good for beginners (like a SH101)

What I find very interesting is that it closely resembles a string machine (more complex still, otherwise it would not be called synthesizer)
With a phaser quality analog output mono JUNO106, it is right in the sound of Jean Michel Jarre OXYGEN!

By using crude must match the sound created by the report or when the active chorus (unlike dry in position 1 or 2 is greatly felt!)

polyphony mode 1 or 2 does not change the sound from the 6 divide by 2 voice polyphony,
and total polyphony sound is thicker
but it is a kind of unison that does not sound good,
is less well adapted to its mode, otherwise it sounds like a stack of channels not terrible ...

. The chorus is not configurable, there are 2 positions and that's it. But it is analog and organic living (loudly Légé a breath come and go very soft is heard)

. Memoirs on tape or digital internal and sysex, very convenient for the time.

. But full MIDI sysex (which will require a converter to write the data sent by the knobs in RNPN to use its controllers in Live, Logic and other sequencers)

. Polyphonic Portamento very musical (on different modes of polyphony is very beautiful)
Diverse and interesting settings in the bender (play on the modulation of the filter, LFO, the COD's)

. PWM integrated a bit more complex sound.

. SUB oscillator great. Effective on the basslines.

SOUNDS

The JUNO106 is a kind of emblem of the analog sound!

After that one no longer looks an Oberheim the same way!
Personally, I do not have much to envy to OBX example, so the sound is present, lime, musical, sweet, creamy, deep, ... beautiful.

The filter used not as a fishing SH101 to make the comparison, so a white ring sounds sensible enough hard attack sound is not very violent, lack of nervousness here.
But it is also here that brings softness characteristic of the synth, important to know not to crash before you get it.

on the other hand contrary to the opinion posted below it's still hard to make it sound aggressive (unless spent in effects)

Having tested a JX8P ROLAND is a more evolved in terms of sound design, the JUNO 106 has a big advantage despite his lack of opportunities: a filter very rich, which at once expands its range of sounds and allows him to go beyond the ratings do not consider techniques!
I had never heard a filter so rich, with or without chorus is an incredible pleasure and probably unique in the early series Juno! (60, 106 ...)

To emphasize this point which is the making a difference, this filter offers an infinite range of nuances, details that enrich the sound, completely counter to what I imagined after being persuaded that his big sound could not rhyme with musicality: ultimately it is that I use most today!

It leaves the opportunity to offer at least what it takes to make a composition in itself: Powerful bass diverse selection of fine tablecloths (sober and melancholy, sips power, sad, dull, unhealthy, reproducing the human voice through his personality)'s sweep worthy of a CS80 (playing on the level of HP filter) crystalline sounds echoing the DX7, organ sounds realistic (do not however try to reproduce the acoustic sound) and all the sound more or less simple and it can do analog, rendering incredible!

I have a reberb Hardwire RV-7 licensed Lexicon that I loved him, it's absolutely beautiful! AWESOME! and finally I am almost certain that whatever Jupiter not compete with many of his sounds in terms of depth, warmth and softness.

OVERALL OPINION

The Juno 106 is talked about on many forums, especially with today's big problem of aging.

Is it worth the cost to buy one knowing that he died for 2, 3 years?
Yes, for my part,
because it is again possible to have it fully, but suddenly we find ourselves in a particular situation:

Its price is not worth much in bad shape, but will cost twice the original price (~ 450 €) it is revised! We must therefore take this into account before trying to acquire it.

In any case it is unique
He has not left me indifferent when I first tried.
I do my never tired of him, pleasure and emotion are always renewed.
That's what I call a musical instrument, in its evocation of a vintage machine.

There is little, but what he can do it with class.
