Weighted with high quality polyphonic aftertouch and velocity keyboard. Factory presets (frozen) and editable presets (2). Portamento and glissando are present.

UTILIZATION

Cs-80 is a polyphonic analog synthesizer 8 bi-timbral voices (by layer) single oscillator.
Sawtooth specific form (enriched harmonic) and traditional PWM pulse with dedicated LFO.
Section filtering double series (HP / LP) driven by a specific envelope parameters 5 (IL, IN, AT, DT, RT). The sine VCO is sent directly to the VCA to magnify the sound.
The modulation section (Sub oscillator) modulates directly or via aftertouch VCO, VCF and VCA. An external signal can extend the modulation possibilities to infinity.
The effects are limited to a chorus and a ring modulator extremely musical.

SOUNDS

The sounds are powerful and specific because it takes time to adapt to tame this monster of 100kg. The presets are not faithful reproduction of real sounds but approaches. Cs-80 is good at the brass sounds with its special envelope filter. This is the most expressive analog synthesizer ever built.

OVERALL OPINION

It is a unique machine that requires grip to release something (count months and even after a few years, you will still not make the turn). Even Vangelis had to adapt to the times. It is true that maintenance is difficult because the machine is composed of pupuces owners. It sounds great void, a typical reverb Lexicon magnifies 224 (set up by Vangelis) .... Undeniably, those who denigrate do not know to use it, those who master it will never separate them ... .

Its rating is prohibitive and does not take into account the monstrous cost of repair in case of fat breakdown (keyers / converters)

The Yamaha CS 80 is a very big unit. I do love the way that it is laid out though with color coded sliders, I think it looks cool and kind of makes some sense of all of the stuff on the board. This board is very big though and weighs about 150 or more pounds. So there wont be any taking it anywhere. You will want to leave this in the major studio, so I don’t know why someone would want this in their home unless they just have a good space to get it in. The Yamaha CS 80 has some amazing sounds that are very thick and phat. I didn’t think that sounds on this type of gear could be so fat. They are almost to fat and need to be eq some.


UTILIZATION

Using it will take about a day or two depending on how long you sit at the unit, you will have to learn where everything is so that when you want to do something you know exactly where that slider or knob is to tweak. But with the color coded stuff it kind of makes sense of everything for you once you get the hang of it.


SOUNDS

The sounds are by far the best thing about this unit. This has the best sounding phat sounds out of any piece of vintage gear that I have heard ever. This is the winner hands down as far as sound thickness goes. Also the ability to edit those sounds is pretty easy once you understand some basics.


OVERALL OPINION

This thing is huge, so don’t purchased it if you don’t have the room for it. There are two handles on it, but you probably wont be able to carry 150 plus pounds like it’s a suit case, its just too big for that.

Polyphonic keyboard with after touch, one of the most expressive synths.

UTILIZATION

Synth presets + CONTRL of paramtres like n 'analog synth matter what. Rubber band trs cool.
Unreliable trs is sensitive to failures. Vangelis had more to always have a oprationnel.
So untransportable 100kg.

SOUNDS

Dcevant enough, I prfre my Obx A. Vangelis was putting Echorec Binson to magnify the sound. Everyone imagines that the CS80 is a fantastic machine, but it effects me no end

OVERALL OPINION

A synth that would not be worth much if the only Vangelis had not embedded in multiple effects. Good knowledge of electronic or a good bank account to the new acqureurs are desirable.

Polyphonic aftertouch keyboard heavy with a rare quality.
Trs expressive, the machine is alive, 8 voice polyphony
2X1 2X2 oscillator and filters (LP / HP rsons) per channel.
There is a chorus / trmolo.
There is possibility to "copy" the paw 4 rglages half way
in 4 slots hidden behind a trap door.
But it is a machine truly analog, no digital memory,
most ancient synthsmme have many more features
of mmorisation.

UTILIZATION

The config gnrale is clear from some sliders a bit sotriques,
if not it's old school is that instead of returning to
an infinite tree of submenus, you push the slider and a walk.

SOUNDS

The sounds are not ralistes is not the purpose of the machine
They are just ralistes regard to the sound vanglis,
since it is a synth ftiche.

OVERALL OPINION

I use it for a week, what I like least is the weight
sr good and the price, more opportunities for failure, no
of autotune. But I rv trs long this machine and I finally
had and I do not ENTSO. Rcent an opinion said that without the effect is
not transcendent. But this is the case of beucoup analos, it takes at least
a rverb and / or a delay.
It can not be compared to another synth is totally DIFFERENT,
Personally, I love it.
The formulation of this synth arturia by the CS80V2 (http://www.arturia.com) is very well but also
for aficionados, nothing beats the real bte.
Another formulation of this synth trs INTERESTED appeared in late 2009, is the ME80 Gunnar Ekornes.

UTILIZATION

A cellist friend was surprised extrèmment expressiveness .... and yet he heard of bcp "big" polyphonic analog synths such as OBXa, Memmorymoog, 5/VS prophet, Synthex, etc ...

I use it for about 4 years.
Luckily, it is very fast tune, and just!
It is expensive but exceptional, except that a price must be near to invest a little more than a memmory but frankly here is the ... moreover, with one CSO is able to dethrone the low and below the lower memmorymoog!
