ok so as the subject states i'm a little new to recording but don't think i'm a complete idiot i know some of the basics.

here is few topics i would like to find out about:

what is needed to record guitar onto the pc as i already have good software, good 5.1 speakers, large hard drive.

do i need an interface/preamp to record guitar if so can anyone recommend a good one?

if not what do i need please list them
