Hi Geoff-

A soundcard is the part of your computer that either takes an audio input and records it to the hard drive, or takes an audio file from the hard drive and plays it back through your speakers. It can either be a part of your computer motherboard (integrated sound card) or a card that plugs in to a slot in the motherboard inside your computer.

Do you HAVE a soundcard in your computer? Did it come with speakers? Do you hear the "Happy in Microsoftland" bit of music when you start Windows?
