« Solid bass combo. »
Published on 11/30/11 at 20:13This bass amp is a solid state 1x15 combo. Mine was used and came with an EV SRO instead of the Sheffield. It has high and low inputs. It has a preamp out, power amp in. Features a graphic eq and a really weird chorus, which sadly isn't footswitchable. I think its around 100-150watts. Not really sure to be completely honest. It's pretty loud though. Keeps up with a drummer okay. It's pretty heavy, but not too bad. Definitely built like a tank.
UTILIZATION
In all honesty, it's a pretty decent sounding amp. I can get a pretty fat R&B tone out of the one I have and it's pretty easy to dial in with the graphic EQ. Can't really complain, it's a pretty self explainable set up.
SOUNDS
I've played a couple basses through the Peavey. Some with active and some with passive pickups. It responds well to most basses. I haven't had an issues with getting a reasonable sound. The chorus is very, very strange. It kind of sounds like lazer guns. Not very chorus-y to my ear to be completely honest. Kind of neat though. I found it was really cool for ambient stuff. It can be very ominous sounding. It is loud enough to keep up with a drummer okay and still sound okay. I use a lot of pedals through it and it seems to take them nicely. Mainly a Verbzilla, Big Muff Pi and a Keeley Modded Rat. It sounds really good for a lot of styles but I like it for R&B and Doom. I know that is a weird combination but it really does that stuff well. Not a bad sounding amp for the price.
OVERALL OPINION
Overall for the $100 I spent on this thing and the use it has gotten... It has wonderful value. I haven't played a whole lot of lower wattage bass amps I have liked, but this one honestly does a pretty good job. Holds up with a drummer okay and sounds pretty good. Takes pedals really well. I'd buy one again for the price I paid. Like most peavey things, it does the job and it's built like a tank.
