« A good little road »
Published on 08/29/13 at 07:59Product widely documented for its features, I do not dwell on it me:
- Digital console patch Internal I / O
* Analog Inputs: 12 XLR mic / line jack jack + 4 + 1 st rca / Outputs: 2 XLR + 2cue hand jack
4 omni jack (all symmetrical except obviously RCA)
* Digital: 1 RCA IO SP / dif Opt + 1 + 1 BNC Adat IO IO Clock + 2 expansion slot (8 channels in / out)
- 23 mono channels + 4 st / 8 in / 8/2 bus hand with dynamics / para 4-band EQ per channel or bus
- 16 assignable faders motorized hand + 1 + 2 assignable encoders on 4 st
- Lot of discrete switches (salt / solo / mute, ...) and / or multi-access
- Sync 44.1kHz <-> 96kHz, automation, snapshots, various settings
UTILIZATION
Like all consoles to control surface, the 01V requires a learning period for having his hand, but it is relatively intuitive for basic functions. The main page of the manual to know is the internal block!
I use it for "small" operations live on the one hand, but also and especially as routing matrix / monitoring in the studio with PT HD2.
Live, you can take advantage of his faculties memory to record a full show or a festival different situations. But be careful for the use of EQs must ensure that manipulates good band with a lot of only three buttons instead of 12! When the dynamics is all done with a single selector knob & ... this is real bad points or very bad in some tense situations.
In the studio or live the high point is the flexibility of assignments in / out as almost any in / out physical can be routed to any in / out, hence the importance of knowing and understanding the synoptic .
This is even more true with the soft pc / mac, despite its rough-hewn side to control for a larger screen.
SOUNDS
You can not expect great preamps or a superb conversion in this price range, also in the studio and live I first used the digital IO (adat extension with other preamps) for sensitive taken directly routing to PTHD. It is suitable to capture the "secondary" tracks.
The mixer and internal digital processing based on a fixed-point processing, which makes the proper treatment of certain EQ config and / or bus too difficult charge. Added to preamps just limits, we can get a sound a little brouillasse, losing a lot of definition. So, going for the "small" live music, theater, convention, although enriched by the effects rested and flexibility of the bike (eg face + 6 + 2 FX returns) but incompatible with extensive studio work without other processing (in my protools HD + TC6000).
That is why I use the 01V in monitoring progress in the studio shots and single router in the mix. Then the opportunity to work 88.2/96 kHz allows to keep the pith and substance!
OVERALL OPINION
Robust (live / studio track for 8 years), and holding out his promises for the price often as Yamaha products, it does not make it rain or shine. Would it be a car, we take her for a Golf GTD, a little gruff, not very sexy, but good small family multitasking!
Hold up, but not good competition to consider with this non-fireball.
The picture shows the integration of the 01V96 governed in my mobile studio.
