Digital, high definition home yamaha resolution from 44.1 to 96 kHz, input 16 or less, 24-bit 32-bit internally, found in a 19-inch (the console is an optional rack-mount) 12 mic with power supply phantom switchable in groups of 4 inputs, with the insertion point, to use a particular external device, the insert is located before the converter, so it resste in the analog domain which prevents the conversion that degrade the signal. There are four line inputs, the rising number of analog inputs at 16 with no options. In the analog domain decision tr 2 for connecting a recorder or another. Digital decision is that two very digital contact in S / PDIF with apareils using this format, an input digital output, and finally it takes two (one in and one out) taken ADAT optical permetent comuniquer of a multitrack, an 8-channel ADAT carries up to 48 kHz maximum but in this case. In other features include a gain control for preamp and a -20 dB pad for slices "micro" and only one gain setting for slices "online". A screenshot with adjustable contrast but not brightness, which is not always practical. A saw for the master meter, a navigation area between the different parameters, a section for setting agaliseur track selected, two areas key to select the layer fader and fader mode of a block of 12 keys to the main menu screen, and finally eight user-assignable keys. The console also has two terminals for Connextion clock (internal or external, since it can also latches on an external clock from the ADAT or S / PDIF, an expansion bay to install one of Many options, one triplet twelve o'clock noon for the control of recorders and a USB port to connect the console to a computer. The output is XLR master but there is also a moniter output (Sereo) jack on two and four omni out in jack.
UTILIZATION
Ergonomics is the highlight of the console, to be honest, I did not really open the manual, after three hours of handling and ride through menus, you come to master the craft. You should know that the interrêt of Digital versus analog is a versatility, because they just send anything anywhere, which is pretty handy! and one little sound to a group facade (the master) in return (the omni 4 out) and make an 8-track recording (ADAT) simultaneously, limited only by the skill of the operator console. And indeed, although the Cosol using the user, because the whole setting is stored, which is very useful for the live, the more besoind to note all the settings and change everything by hand between two groups, where two completely different moreceaux , it is enough to store the settings, and the chrger at the right time, knowing in addition that it is possible to define a trasition time between scenes to avoid abrupt changes in level. When the effect parameters (gates, compressors, eq .....) they are all present and modifiable, by the way, as I said above, access to different functions is easy, except in the black where it will provide a small lamp to illuminate the buttons to access functions, found on some consoles. The PC or Mac (OS9), can store configurations, where even the change of the console, the only difference being the presence of the mouse on the computer, the software is more useful to me to record patterns than anything else. The O1V96 also emulates the mackie hui, but the tests I did on my pro tools, does not go was very convincing, we regarded this feature as little enough compared to the countless accesoire function of this unit.
Update of 09/01/05:
The 01V96 Hui runs on my pro tools for almost a year now. It vraiq ue is not bad, but it is not practical, although dificil edit a plug from the table, we can not control everything, and you have to often use the keyboard, so it ' is somewhat limited, practice anyway to make a quick adjustment of levels.
SOUNDS
The sound is very good, very clear, even a bit, that's great for the classic which for the studio, but live rock, it's annoying sometimes, I prefer a Soundcraft K2, but hey, it's not the same price. Anyway the sound is very clear from input to output. Compressors and gate are effective, without more, they fulfill their function and very neutral, which is already very good for a sound with the personality, it will insert a plug in for this purpose. The EQ is also quite transparent but are found less effective than plugs wave, well I must say that these are very good! In any case, those of the Sufis are powerful console for a lot of use. The console also features four internal auxiliary effects (2 in 96 kHz) with a resolution of 32 bits Each one, there are a lot of reverb, delay, multiband compressor, amp simulator, chorus, flange etc. ... the reverbs are interested, but not quite make the height of a large TC, playing on the DELLAI effects (Chorus delay flanger etc. ....) are good, the guitar amp simulator is a simulator, c that is to say not very convincing but correct nonetheless. Finally the console to a dynamic Pluot important in the manual they say 110 dB, the sound always a fishing memory that I think he missed on any 01V court.
Update of 09/01/05:
I find the EQ less and less good, they are convenient but not that bad. The sound is very good against the live by.
OVERALL OPINION
I use it daily for over a month, and I'm very happy, this console is very versatile This is also why I took it, the sound is very good, especially compared to the previous model was a bit dull, but it's still digital so you need not rely on heat! or on a particular sound. The grip can be used after several hours of mop in the menus, what we regret it can not add an extension, not being able to view the levels on a wide band of seen meters, and the mixing suround monopolizes virtually all 8-bus console. For the price, it's very very good material, easy to replace a lot of heavy equipment because it is an advantage of having to move "that" some of Dizan kilo, instead of a stone hundreds (hey yes because it weighs 16 conpresseurs already!) and then save space in a home studio where a small board is already important.
Update of 09/01/05:
After several months of use, I am very happy with this console, I use it in rehearsal and in concert with my band, and troune well, the sound is very good once you've spent some time on the set, especially one little mémorisers. Really a nice console for the small live.
