I got my LC-403 in 2001 (14 "x6.5").
It's a wonderful ability to snare sounds very broad.
Bold or snapping sound is always clean and warm.
For me it is set to play rock, pop-rock that it is perfectly at ease.
The only downside of this fund is in my opinion there is no mute inside.
Without some mitigating its harmonics can be sometimes too present.
I regret that Ludwig does goes up because by causing more consistently touch the skin softly as the sound is perfect.
In my opinion the ring is to forget because it is too radical for a snare drum as subtle.
As for the price ... this instrument as it is very acrobatic and that's a shame!
