I originally played guitar with my gigging band back in the late 60's (long ago, in a galaxy far, far away.) I saw another band play at a club in NY and the bass player had a Gibson EB-2 hollow body bass that wowed me. I bought one the next week and switched to bass. A few years later I married and had two kids and had little time to play in a band, so I sold my prized Gibson, and gave up to keep a good marriage going. I always regretted that choice. Now, 4 decades later, wife passed away and I got the bug to play again. So here I am, and it's a whole new world of choices in instruments and how they sound, and are played on a stage, or in a studio setting.
I was shopping online to compare several basses in the lower price ranges (under 400 dollars)and was thinking of getting the Peavey Millenium AC/BXP with active VFL pickups. I found the Schecter C-4 at AMS and it impressed me. At 300 dollars (list price 869.00) I thought it was a steal of a deal. Sight unseen, I took a huge leap of faith and ordered it. Three days later, I was wowed when I opened the box.

Slim, fast neck,awesome satin finish, smooth frets you can even get clear notes at the 24th fret! Good factory setup. Strings are D'Addario XL regular rounds and sound good.
The variable active tones are sweet and get you almost any tone you need to have for almost any style. Ease of playability is great, the tone is dark and thick, and at this price, I doubt you can find a better bass. In my opinion, it beats the 'made in China basses' by light years as far as quality goes.
There is nothing to dislike about this bass. Schecter discontinued this model, hence the substantial closeout price.
Finish, black chrome hardware, super smooth fingerboard, EMG HZ pickups are amazing. It isn't 'Top Heavy' like other basses I have tried. It's actually light, easy to get around the neck, and the 'string through' body has amazing sustain! Overall finish has me rating it a solid 5.
If you want a bass on a budget that looks great, feels great to play, and has a kick ass tone, this could be the ONE! No bass is perfect for everyone because we all have different tastes in instruments. I took a leap of faith and am pleased with what I got. The tuners stay in tune and I play it daily, the quality is excellent for the price range, and it feels like it will last a long time.
Final note, active basses eat 9 volt batteries when left plugged in. Unplug your cable when not in use and they will last months. Thanks for reading, and I hope this helps! ROCK ON!
