I took out my old brick of his closet to give him a second youth, I discovered a little app called LSDJ (Little Sound DJ) which allows to use it as a sequencer.
You just buy a programmable cartridge (between 30 and 70 € depending on model) and the rom LSDJ ($ 2 at the site of the creator)
Subsequently I found the ability to synchronize multiple gameboy and LSDJ via adapter 4 players changed, a real pleasure and more especially if you intend to put a lot of runs, the gameboy with only 4 channels usable: 2 pulse, a wav and a channel noise
I add that we can also use a modified QWERTY keyboard to play but the practice remains the same qd opportunity to build a midi interface (Arduinoboy) to synchronize the gameboy with any MIDI device (eg a keyboard)
In short if you are looking for sounds oldschool hardware is the cheapest solution!
