I use this card with a pair of Yamaha HS50M. I plug in an instrument or microphone from time to time.
I chose it mainly because of its interface (beautiful) while facade style mixer. All cables in the back, the position is cleaner. We have the right to a nice bar graph and a large volume knob very useful
I use the FireWire port on my PC W7 and the external power supply and connected to avoid cuts.

UTILIZATION

I work mostly with Live! and virtual instruments and MIDI keyboards.
The configuration of this card can record two mono tracks at the same time, despite more entries but does so without flinching.
A small point on latency ngatif I would have liked a longer short (11ms 19ms input and output).

Installation is perfectly fine and I have not had any bug.

I use it for 6 months and I'm really pleased. This is my first external card
I remake the same choice without hesitation

I like the aesthetics, practicality in everyday use with the cover, I wanted a better sound through headphones (CAN newer than my old Edirol FA66) for the meter and the large volume. Powerful notebook PC.

UTILIZATION

The driver is not terrible when the computer falls asleep, it is to reboot.
6 Cubase, Live 8, it works fine level latency nothing to say about this rate the, but it lacks the possibility of internal routing, no internal DSP mixer, no MIDI either ...

OVERALL OPINION

I'm happy for her that is better than the FA-66 (ADCs that need to be much more recent), but the lack of digital I / O and internal routing nonexistent make me regret my FA-66 rather often ... It was more stable, had many more opportunities and routing flexibility. OK the sound is a little better on konnekt6, but especially the headphone that I feel the difference. Well, since I use the headset 70% of time is important. on the other hand I hate gadgets like reverb built completely useless. But I love the tactile aspect and the headphone volume separately! I bought it for troubleshooting is abroad, what it does very well, but not professional equipment in terms of functionality.

OVERALL OPINION

Since 2005, I am a bit of computer music seriously. Until I was shooting with an E-mu 1820 m (the must have card around 500 € at the time) but my needs have changed and my computer system has been modernized. My current needs are:

Track-record guitars through amps or simulators.
Voice-recording

So I squinting what was done in the field of home-studio sound cards. I do not need 20 inputs, ADAT port, 10 output. I therefore naturally oriented towards a minimalist map. Finally, in this category, sound cards are not legion. It is admittedly low-end models but low quality for correct model in good condition. There are of course the Apogee Duet, but it is only available on Mac. Then think of the RME Babyface but it remains far too expensive for my poor scholarship and has a connection too full that I did not need. Remained the Line 6 M-Audio does not attract me.

TC Electronic's seduced me first by the brand reputation that is second to none in the field of audio. Then this is the philosophy of the map that pointed me towards this model. Admittedly, the connection is rudimentary (you can either, save microphone jack / jack Hi-z, making Hi-z/Hi-z or line / line). It's little but for the lonely home-studio owners that covers most needs (we can still lament the lack of S / PDIF or noon).
Then if you look a little more about the features and specifications, we realize that the converters and preamps (less gain anyway) are the same as the Konnekt 48. So a priori rather good cam. The philosophy of the Konnekt 6 is therefore a lot of features but good quality.
Another point that I decided to turn towards this model is the true Hi-Z input. On my E-mu, Hi-Z input is 10k ohms which is far too little a deterioration of sound (treble loss) when you want to use it with a guitar or bass. There was an input impedance of 1 Megaohms which is very good.
So I decided to buy this sound card

For now, I tested it with a PC running Windows XP with a Pentium D processor, a GB of ram and it works. To install my friends, is simple. Launch the CD, do "next, next". After installing the software and drivers made, is connected via Firewire cable and it works. By laziness, I contented myself of drivers in 2008 but the card will pass on a Pentium Quadcore under Seven So I download the latest drivers. A priori, there is no reason that it does not rotate properly.

Once installation is complete. A round in the editor software. It's really minimalist and stupid as a cabbage but it is this simplicity and immediacy of the grip that seduced me. E-mu and are complicated to Patchmix were possible sources of headaches constant. Simplicity is the friend of the musician. It allows you to concentrate on music by limiting the potential technical problems.

Regarding sound quality. I was very pleasantly surprised. On the E-mu, if you push the preamp gain, mean sea fairly quickly. Same when you work and you need to mount the headset volume, we get a quick breath and therefore quite difficult. Here, silence is required. The preamp is neutral on the whole sound spectrum. I will not say it's worth the Millennia or Manley, I have not tested. But to my ears worn by the decibels, the preamp can be described as neutral and dynamic. Plug-ins provide the desired color.
DI function is also very good. I have a direct box BSS AR-133. Well, very clever one that makes the difference with the DI internal TC Konnekt 6. To record guitars through simulation software is really the foot.
I do not venture to compare the sound quality with that of more expensive models (Apogee Duet or Babyface at the top) but I think it is played with a few hairs of c ** near. A map is a serious serious card. Point!.

Finally, I put 9 / 10. One point less because I liked the S / PDIF and MIDI. This is not fatal but good.

- Quality of the preamp: all sound cards that I had (motu, rme, m-audio, esi, edirol) is best for me! beautiful sheen in the treble, bass hot, etc. ... (Personal opinion of course)
- Use: designed for use on your desktop, so quite handy
- Quality of the converters at the competition most expensive (I mean Motu, RME)
-The models of the brands with more inputs have a few concerns about fragility of knobs! No problem with that?!
