K, I just set up my keyboard (yamaha xglite) to my laptop with cooleditpro 2.0, and I can't seem to get any input signal from the laptop. When I go to options -> device properties, it seems to recognize the yamaha is there under the midi in tab, it shows up as "yamaha usb in 0-1", though in the "device ordering preference", there's a note in the window that says "MIDI input devices are not currently used in multitrack". Is that the problem? I just want the software to recognize when I'm hitting the keyboard, and there's no signal whatsoever, do I have to do something on the keyboard itself to generate an output? Any help for this noob would be appreciated, thanks!!

First, make sure your Yamaha XGlite is powered on—some keyboards need batteries or an adapter to send MIDI signals. In Cool Edit Pro 2.0, head to Options > Device Properties > MIDI and check that "Yamaha USB in 0-1" is set as the default input. Also, go into the MIDI settings and enable input for the track you’re using. If that still doesn’t work, try restarting your keyboard and laptop, or re-plugging the USB cable. You don’t need to tweak anything on the keyboard itself—just press the keys, and it should send signals once the software is set up right.
