TopicPosted on 07/16/2006 at 04:56:33Which mics to what?
Hi,
i've just set up my home-recordingeqipment, but when i want to record the guitars and basses i'm wondering what mics to use. I have only mics for the drums, and i'm thinking that it might work to use the tom mics. Or maybe even several mics to take all the frequencies of the amp. But I also need to have an answer on why no one ever just plugs the guitars straight into the mixer, and add the effects on the computer. I see that some want the sound of there amp, but it seems forbidden to do it. Why?

there are no general rules in recording.
sometimes you mic the cab, sometimes you use a di, sometimes you mic the back of the cab, sometimes you reamp the guitar etc...
it's all about what sound you want.
first answer yourself "what sound do i want?"
once you got that, work on it in any way you can imagine.
if it sounds good, then its good to go.

well i agree but i did'nt have enough time to write it all!
i would reccomend you di the bass.
But in every recording you need reverb!
dont over do it and dont under do it!
its essential!
