TopicPosted on 10/25/2006 at 17:30:13pa system question
hello everyone, I am new here.
I have been putting together a PA system for stunt riding shows we do around the nation, and had a quick question.... which I hope doesn't sound dumb.....
I just bought a Peavey XR 684f mixer, and also a set of peavey speakers, and also a set of yamaha speakers.....
there are only two inputs in the back of the mixer for speakers..... which is where my question come in to play....
I want to hook up all 4 speakers to the mixer.... what is the easiest way to do this?
Y connector 1/4 splitter cables....?
thanks in advance for your help...

are you talking about active or passive speakers?

unless its a powered mixer, or powered speakeres, you need an amplifier to boost the signal of the mixer. we need more details on your equipment.

%1$s a écrit Most PA speakers supply an output jack on the back so that you can "chain" speaker sets together. You just connect one set of speakers to the powered mixer outs, and then run cables from the "out" jacks on that set of speakers to the "in" jacks on the other set.
true, but in this case (passive speakers, if you mention a powered mixer) you must keep an eye on impedence or you might blow up the amp.
Active speakers do not have this "problem", since each has its own power amp.
I know both sets of speakers are 8 ohms.... and was just needing to know the best way to hook them up simultaniously, as the powered mixer only has one set of speaker outputs on the back.... and of course, I do not to mess up any of the equiptment...
thanks again everyone.

%1$s a écrit 8 ohms is pretty much the defacto standard impedence for small PA speakers these days, in fact, many manufacturers don't even feel the need to list ohms ratings in the ad descriptions of their smaller speakers, since they are almost always rated at 8 ohms. But of course it is still a good idea to make absolutely sure that both sets of speakers are rated at 8 ohms if you are going to daisy-chain them. The manual for the Peavey mixer should tell you what is a no-no...:P
what do you mean by "daisy-chain" them?
and I bought the powered mixer used, so it did not come with a manual...
