Trying to Record new Track

This may seem like a dumb question...I'm trying to record a new track on this program Cakewalk Sonar 6. THe problem is, when I go to start recording a second track- it also records the first one with it. I'd really like to figure out how i can isolate the new track so as to make it it's own without this annoying re recording of the first track. I'm just really doing basic stuff here- inputting stuff right into my basic sound card on the computer- anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this?
