TopicPosted on 10/20/2005 at 12:12:10Anything else?
I was just recently suggested (on this website actually) a Fostex VF160EX 16 track digital mixer for recording my band (guitar, bass, drums, vocals). I plan to rent this peice of equipment when we're ready. I also have a shure sm58 mic. So apart from drum mic kit, one more sm58 for the back up vocals and two instrumental mics for the two amps, what other equipment do i need if any? the recording is going to be a live recording, so don't think i need monitors or anything like that. can anyone think of anything i'm missing?

You should consider having 3 mics for the kit, one for the BD, and a pair above, one each side.
Or at least one near the snare and one over the toms, plus the BD.
Some sound-absorbent panels (read: armchairs ;) ) to block of the drums from the rest of you.
Record the vocals with a large towel over your head and then draped over the mic, enclosing you both (but not touching the mic) sounds mad but it works.
Also a popshield for the vocal mic, use a pair of tights on a metal coat-hanger.
