Published on 02/16/03 at 15:00I got this little box at Guitar Center in Tukwila, Washington and paid $85 because a friend of mine works there. I got it because my Korg rackmount tuner started flaking on me.
The TU-2 has some great options. It has a power-out plug that allows you to daisy chain power to other Boss pedals if you buy the power supply and the little daisy chainer thing. You can also choose if you want it to have it tune in flats or double flats. You can have it display it's meter as a strobe or as flat and sharp (like most of us are used to)
Mine became microphonic after about a month of use. What happens is that when I have it hooked in my effect line between my amp and guitar, it produces a high pitch squeal, much like feedback. When I tap the unit, you can hear it in the speakers. When I'm distorted, the squeal creates obnoxious feedback when I'm not playing. The Guitar Center where I bought it won't take it back because of the 30-day thing. There's also a chip in the side from a faulty finish job and they won't honor my 5 year warranty because they think I dropped it. So now I have to go spend another $85 after only a mere month of use.
Like I said, the paint job is really faulty. It's got chips all over it. I bought another boss pedal at the same time (the new phaser) and it doesn't have ANY problems. No chips or anything. I store them together when I'm on tour, so all I can assume is that it's faulty finish work. I can't use this pedal unless I take it out of my signal path with a A-B switch, which makes it really cumbersome on my pedal board.
Overall, I have to say that I'm completely unhappy about Roland's technical support service. I'm a professional, touring musician and I'm a consistant buyer of their pedals. I happened to get a lame unit and they won't honor their warranty.
