I am interested in the audiophile because I wanted a good sound card for home studio and Stereo a reasonable budget. I wanted the 100% free numrique gadget (no synthtiseur or analog mixer or amp mic incorporated with just good converters and MIDI I / O. Also this card is very well supported by the excellent Linux ALSA drivers.
My config:
- Linux 2.4.21
- JACK and ALSA
- MSI KT3 motherboard, Athlon 1800XP, 512 MB DDR RAM, 40 GB Disk UDMA
The analog I have my card interfaces with a table Behringer UB1204 PRO, and ES MIDI with Korg X3
The cot of the card: 12 159 euros in Germany by internet (much cheaper than in France)
UTILIZATION
No problem, the first time. So easy that I even allowed the luxury of rcuprer and I even compile the latest ALSA drivers daily. And patch my kernel ... The manual is great, especially the German version that considers linux. The utility ALSA envy24control CLNE is the perfect utility M-Audio (thank you M-Audio to work with the OpenSource dveloppeurs!) So we found it.
GETTING STARTED
The ALSA drivers are wonderful! Trs (too) often updated. Couple with JACK (audio server low inertia - low latency) is gnial!
As multitrack workstation (DAW), I use the full rev Ardour, MIDI sequenage for shipping and I chose to partition Rosegarden-4 and as synthtiseur soft, Fluidsynth. For rhythm, there are Hydrogen. And finally JAMin for mastering.
Otherwise for the HIFI COSTS (CD, MP3, ...), Alsaplayer (I prfre XMMS).
Since I use the hardware monitor or on the same sound card it (the super ide internal patchbay!) Or thanks the mixer (a 2 +2 bus), I do not too much importance latency. I prvilgie the quality of sound and robust (I hate xruns innopins). For fun, I dj amus 2.9m down, despite the servers (mail, web, ftp, ...) on the same station.
OVERALL OPINION
Dj one month ... and just as excited (if not more!). I pat every day. Well, I must say that beginners in home studio, but not costs. Level sound is incredible for the price. I have no regrets. On the contrary!
