Tube Condenser Microphones multidirectional (omnidirectional / cardioid / figure 8), with a knob to turn on the power supply to use intermediate positions.

I first bought the SCT700, following rave reviews of AF, requiring a large static membrane for 159 euros ... and I was amazed.
So I wanted to buy the "full" version of the SCT to enjoy the multidirectivité (and make changes at the same time).

Already, the packaging of SCT2000 is still more flattering than the SCT700.Les storage places provided for the different elements of the microphone are better damn well.
For cons, the 7-pin cable supplied with the SCT2000 is 3 meters against 10 meters for the other, which is sufficient, but it is shorter.
Otherwise, there are no caps supplied with the SCT2000, I liked him the windshield, she served me, I'll have to buy one, but hey, it's no big deal.

OVERALL OPINION

So the sound is indeed very cardioid close SCT700, maybe a slight advantage for SCT2000 but it's very subjective, is worth ca.
The multidirectivités (I tried mostly cardio and a little omni) are very effective, starting from cardioid, the more one moves towards the omni in the intermediate positions, the more the sound opens up and becomes clear and bright ...
But I have not tried in great conditions, either so I prefer to stay in cardio or the intermediate position to the nearest omni cardioid to make good catches.

The original lamp, a 12ax7b (the same as for SCT700 I think), is more correct than I think I hear almost no wind and the sound delivered is not aggressive at all, it is round and fairly well defined.
I even found him a bit too low current, which increases the proximity effect (quite small by the way unless they put the mic to 10cm) and lacks a bit of openness and clarity.
In this connection, I could compare it with another lamp, a NOS Mullard 12at7WA, and character of the micro has changed significantly.
With the latter, in fact, quite the opposite of the Chinese, the bass is not overwhelming at all, but the highs are very bright, maybe too much, which makes the voice clear, bright, open, a little hard and even a little aggressive at times (I sing tenor instead). The sound seems to me more precise and better defined, but less round.
In fact, the Mullard gives a little color to my voice while the Chinese seem rather friendly tone of my voice.

I will try other lights soon (12AX7EH, 12AY7/6072a EH) but it is clear that the choice of the lamp can change, sometimes in a very large extent, the overall tone, and improve the ci.C is really to try anyway.

As expected, this microphone is more than good, I for my money, however I intend to do soon qualques mods to get the mic to the class above and be even happier.
And as a professional technician told me working with Neumann, slices of Neve consoles, SSL and everything else.
It is useless to 1000 euros in a mic so the audio is not following behind.
For good demos, models, AC is more than enough, and maybe a little more in a good strip and everything ...
