The boomerang is a sampler V2 + loop: loop sampler. Its main function is to record a loop and then reproduce it.
It can record two loops on the fly, then reproduce them in the desired order. Designed for live, it saves the 2nd loop after recording the first, without interruption or latency.
Each loop can then be enriched with additional layers.
Each loop can be played backwards. We can combine the last 2 functions add layers played backward on a loop played at the place. This is not gadegt, used well it gives very musical effects.
It can slow or speed up a loop, causing a transposition: the 2nd, the 5TE, octave etc..
Practice to simulate a bass line.
When the stack of layers, the layers already recorded can be mitigated until disappearance when adding additional layers.
This latter function allows the use of rank as an excellent tape delay. Indeed magnificent, really.
Finally, a "live mode reverse" can play clips in reverse live. It's about the gadget, but it's fun.
Flaw: There is no "undo" when you add layers / Better be sure of yourself. Because after having added 5 layers on a loop, crashing on the addition of the sixth, it fuck up the previous 5 ... Disappointment.
It's the only downside for me.
Note: the loops are not retained when the device disconnects. It is a sampler for musician: guitar solo does not save your last when you store in the case, here is the same. This sampler is a musical instrument in itself.
Consider asking a PSU 220 for europe, they serve it for free.
UTILIZATION
The setup is simple and rank VERY well thought out. Almost any configuration or can be made with the footswitch, without releasing the guitar.
The footswitch is very sensitive, have almost no racing, which allows a precision in the definition of loops far beyond what I've tried so far (Boss RC20 and Digitech JamMan).
Being able to record a loop A and a B, to iron will of one another, to enrich them, all without ever stopping, is a quality that none of the samplers that I know does . Registration is fast erasing is very ergonomic. The steel construction gives you confidence. I've had almost a year, intensive use, no problem to dial up the volume control of the loop is really convenient.
The manual is clear and written in simple, with a pleasant humor. In the tips on the site, Will Zegal kindly upload the translation I made of this manual.
The only difficulty I encountered was setting the input volume. 3 beaches are available "Instrument", "Micro" and "online". Within each track a knob adjusts. It is both comprehensive and somewhat restrictive. Indeed, after a good setup is perfect, but it's quite sensitive, the transition from a skyscraper to another, for example, requires Readjust the beast. If the setting is not done carefully is recovered breath. But once the adjustment well done, fine.
SOUND QUALITY
Overall sound quality: the quality of Rank 2 + is very good ... Once the input gain is set properly (see above). I was surprised to see that you can add any number of layers well above what is said on some forums before the sound appears as a draft. To do this: 1) it must set the input level. Spend the time necessary to write down the settings for each instrument may be connected. 2) we must think of ways music loops, taking into account the frequencies. In fact, it's like a group, if everyone plays together in the same frequency range, is the soup. But if it is musical and that reflects in terms of rhythms and frequencies, it was really a great number of possible additions then blur the sound. For example: a theme with a warm sound in the midrange. Then microwave for a serious bass line, and microphone for acute funky rhythm. It is grouve it remains to pass over in crunch for soloing. P * tain foot.
I used it with 5 guitars: 2 Strato Imitation, Imitation SG 335 (super cort guitar), Ibanez Acoustic Guitars Archtop and after mixer. In all cases the sound of the guitar is respected.
I also used by entering my voice beat box. There, I struggled to adjust the voice and guitar and find the balance of the output table. But the result is worth it. The beat box spring specifically, although I am a ball beat box.
The sampler is very nice. Against all odds, I use a lot of the reverse function to enrich loops with effects "violonning.
I use it often also as delay, after some adjustments at the base very fast. It is not his primary function, but so far the delay that I use most. Sound roots, for delays to the old. The speed of the delay is defined by the speed at which you press the record button. Really, really nice.
I put 8 because of the time required for the gain control input. If the setting is not good, the saturation caused recalls that it's digital. It's ugly. But once the adjustment is correct, there was something very clean.
OVERALL OPINION
I've had almost a year, I use it extensively for 6 months because I have no friends (call for desperate musician Brest, bass, drums).
I tried the following samplers:
Boss RC 20 and Jamman Digitech.
Over the sampler integrated bass vamp with the pedal of Behringer FCB1010. In all cases, accuracy was lower loops of the race because of footswitches. And impossible to record a loop B directly after playing a loop without stopping something. In contrast, the loops are saved when you cut the current (except Bass Vamp). Not the same philosophy. Precedents are the sampler, the Rank is a live looping oriented. And it's my favorite hands down.
The + + +: Footswitch hyper accurate. Good quality sound. The ability to record two loops on the fly, ideal for live performance. Pedals built for the live steel construction firm, the room not to press 2 buttons at the same time, a knob for volume at the foot of the loop. Ancillary functions much more useful than gadgets: loop in reverse, speed, and especially the delay can be beautiful. Which insist on one more: the Boomerang team is very friendly, they respond to emails, they talk about the Other Features of upcoming products. Nice people. Configuration at foot.
--- The: A little time to adjust gain. But it's also because of the high input range possible was the reverse of the medal of the tremendous versatility of this sampler. For some the size of the beast. The price a little higher than others that have other functions (conservation of the loop after sunset, and large storage capacity.
By the way: I may be selling mine since I bought the range II. But the Argus is on view. For 350 euros you have almost a Range III preprod nine. At 200-250 euro, for example, is a matter entirely acceptable.
