Published on 09/02/03 at 15:00I had been looking for a new guitar as I only had a crappy squire strat that had been put through hell and back. I was keen to get one except for the price was a lag. I had been looking at ibanez's for ages and other brands like Fender and Gibson were just way over the budget. I went to my local World Of Music store and tried out about 20 guitars. Epiphone, ibanez, fender, Ashton, Washburn, tried heaps of every type but when the shopowner gave me a try at the godin I was hooked. and for only AU$1000 (US$550). But I still didn't have the cash. Luckily my parents just sold their business (cheesecake shop) and as a present for working there so long they decided to surprise me with the godin.
Oh ok. Where to start. First of all the body. It has a great shape, completely solid and is made of mahogany giving it a beautiful sound. It's sparkling gold and has black hardware. The Bridge is Les paul style stop bridge with a string through body design. It's equipped with two seymore duncan humbuckers, one tone, one volume knob and a five way pick-up selecter (bridge, bridge single, both humbucker, neck single, neck). The neck is also mahogany with a rosewood fretboard. This guitar is just so smooth to play. Sustaine is just amazing and bending, hammers, pull-offs and everything just sound so much clearer and better. Before I didn't know how to determine tone but once I played this baby I knew what they meant. The tuning knobs are also very acurate and they don't slip like some.
I like everything about it. The only thing some people may not like is it's lack of tremolo bridge, doesn't bother me but some might.
Quality is the best. The team from godin obviously got all the best equiptment. From the mahogany neck and body to the seymore duncan pick-ups. All top grade. There isn't one thing wrong with it.
This is an amazing guitar. It has so many styles and sounds. It's key is it's warm clean sound but it also has a distortion to die for, and with the single coil or humbucker choice. There's nothing you can't do. If you want a top grade guitar without paying too much, get a godin.
