UTILIZATION

Little review of the head to the "feet". I can already tell you that for the price, you do not care about you, the guitar is thought for maximum user comfort.
The guitar is equipped with mechanical lock, if you've never used, is an accessory which has been very difficult to happen after trying it. The principle is that the mechanical features a knob that allows you to tighten the rope once in position, thereby avoiding the little annoyances that occur regularly such as "shit, I folded the rope but it moved anyway."

The saddle has no strings but blocks of a system to Musicman ... I found this little accessory that's so convenient, I was very disappointed not to find it here. The seller assured me quickly by pressing the vibrato arm, to the point of totally losing their tension in the strings, without exaggerated result: perfectly tuned, you scratch an agreement and we appreciate their accuracy. Bluffing.

I'm quite a fan of the team that handles wizzard Ibanez prestige, indeed I have one, it's true that it slides very easily. I'm "sorry" to say they were beaten by the neck of this guitar: a hair coarser, better slides, access to acute flawless, the guitar comes with an action (string height over the button on the handle) ... very low I do not know what is above "highway", saying it is a race circuit!

The body has a screwing to the forearm, again it's a small thing, but it's so convenient! Completed fatigue, however small it may be, whether sitting or standing position, your forearm is literally "raised" on the body, you just have to play your wrist. Obviously it is not heavy, since it is rather thin, but enough so that the guitar does not address the side of the head.
Another small detail that kills the controls are equipped with small "rings" rubber for easy grip!
IN BRIEF: This is the Rolls Royce. The ultimate in comfort, everything is thought up this concept in detail, you can play for hours without getting tired! You just think to hydrate and eat from time to time.

SOUNDS

I'm not really eclectic, I play almost exclusively metal (Slayer, Metallica, Cannibal Corpse, Immolation, Morbid Angel, Darkthrone ...) although I sometimes go in clean and I do not spit on versatile instruments, as the quality is by appointment. Typically, a guitar that excels in its light will be some weaknesses in distortion and vice versa. Here it is not the case. FYI, I tested the guitar on a Mesa Dual Rectifier, without effect.

In his clear, the neck position is the avalanche of midrange and bass, the warm sound par excellence in the bridge position is more crystalline, more mids and high mids, and there you can go to the clacking sounds .
With distortion, the neck position, we find the personality of the microphone, and Sharpness for solos and in the bridge position is immediately much more manly, the microphone sound crazy, you can tackle any style muscular just playing a bit on the tone knob.

Whether you are a bright or saturated, or easel in the neck position, one thing to remember about these microphones: they are very respectful way you play the instrument. You can literally come out of completely different sounds simply by attacking the strings softly as a bully or thick, it's really halucinant! Difficult to dislike anything in this guitar: it is able to address all your little game to be adapted.

OVERALL OPINION

I tested it in a store, for a future purchase. I tried many other top models before trying it, including Gibson Les Paul Custom, a Jackson RR1, a PRS Custom 24 and an ESP M-II. I think quite honestly it beats them all soundly, and I was skeptical when the ability to get out of this guitar sounds extreme death metal vein in the U.S., I was wrong and that is what m has conquered, and the fact that it may also cleans out the rich.

I think it's a guitar "luxury" thinking in every detail for the comfort of your playing. Obviously you have to put the price, I will buy version 7 ropes around 3600 € (public price), but I think you're not stolen, or at least not much when compared to more expensive guitars and who have done a much worse effect (I think especially at the Gibson LP Custom). So it's a quality / price ratio "copy".

I have the 6 string model, Micor piezo head color matching, inlays John Petrucci, and of course the beautiful color Mystic Dream!
Musicman bridge chrome (not floyd, etc.) and nut-bearing. Mechanical wraps!
The maple neck is screwed.
24 frets, 2 humbucker pickups and piezo pickups.
There are two 3-position switch:
-The first line faders can choose between 2 doubles (bridge, neck or the 2 splitted I think)
This top-it allows you to choose 3 configurations, only magnetic pickups, piezo pickups alone, or the 2 combined.
This means that the sound palette is huge!
With that we have a volume knob for the piezo, a volume knob for magnetic and a tone for the magnetic.
In addition there are two output jacks, one where only the magnetic pickups are concerned, the other where we can combined magnetic and piezo.

Suffice to say that everything is there for a huge range of config!

UTILIZATION

The handle is flat, moderately wide, and it seems very small. In fact the whole guitar seems small. The handle is very easy to play is nice, more access to treble is very easy, no problems until the 24th fret.
The guitar is small and very balanced, it sits well on the thigh when you sit and also to the strap, it changes the type guitars explore les paul that are heavy and where the fasteners of the straps are not always the right place.
Also very light, about 3 Kg

SOUNDS

Here, one can say that the beast is revealed.
An impressive precision and accuracy! (That musicman)
I think the other owner of the mark will tell you that it is the greatest quality of a guitar or bass musicman!
The sounds that were achievable with all the microphones and their configurations are awesome!
In bridge, the sound is crisp, attacking, pure, sublime! No sound fat, no clear sound is the sound Petrucci!
The piezos can play gypsy jazz with great sound!
I'm not big stuff behind this guitar, amp transistor and tube distortion Rocktron. But it throws quite a lot!
I tried it with a friend who has a stiletto mesa boogie, his breath away!
No, only the sound petrucci is there, but that's not all we can do really what we want!

OVERALL OPINION

I've had it about 6 months, ordered the U.S.. € 1600 + 400 € VAT and customs instead of 3500 € in Europe!
It was this guitar that I wanted, I, and I am more than satisfied. It was really out of the mouth, the color is particularly sublime mystic dream, from green to violet via blue and black depending on the angle of exposure to light. I think his appearance is what I prefer. The sound is impresive

You'll understand that 10/10 for this guitar came from beyond the mortal world ^ ^

The price however is completely exaggerated, I will not get ever purchased in Europe!

I let the other descriptions for the technical details, I just note that mine is 2004, so there is di-Marzio custom, not the D-Sonic (the first models what).

10 for the character ', it's beautiful (the back of the neck is just gorgeous and visually in use), it ends perfectly, no default, it really has a quality feel.

UTILIZATION

First point: the handle. It's a trick mad ... A bit narrow but round about the head, then it flattens and widens up towards the body. It gives a really excellent playability, feel super comfortable thanks to the oil finish, and especially a chance to play really fast:

The ergonomics are also excellent, as the contours of comfort or balancing the weight, nothing wrong.

Access to acute is exemplary, I dare say more comfortable than RG, with the heel of the handle being well rounded ...

I let the sounds aside for the moment, I'll just say that (personal opinion) is not an easy guitar to play. It is surgically precise, unforgiving ca! It's really a quality instrument, if you do not touch after ca not. Me I put a good month before we really have it in hand.

Still 10 is the high end and it feels ...

SOUNDS

Already a vacuum, compared to a luke-sounding not, here you have a great resonance, it vibrates well, that makes you want to connect!

I could try on a morse ENGL steeve, a 5150 II, Mark V and my jvm 410. I'm still on my ass!

For cleans, it's beautiful, without going into a custom shop Stratocaster either. The bridge position has a lot of biting, it's aggressive. In intermediate is highly crystalline, for a really nice arpeggio or a funky plan (sounds a bit like Stevie Wonder or The Wall supersticious, really nice). In round is round, there's the body, bass is fine nothing to say. Then the piezo: D it has to fall ... by coupling with the magnetic circuit was baccarat crystal in his hands, and mind-blowing AC hangs language ... go watch videos on youtube, there are good quality show good sound quality. the piezo alone is frankly amazing, with settings on the back of the guitar you can really have very good acoustic records (to use a mixing board directly through the amp AC losing all the acoustic side) ... I insist to go through the table, it is magnetically coupled piezo foot, as I've ever played in my life clean, not even on my Stratocaster deluxe ... really, the cleans are amazing, I had not bought the guitar for AC but it's almost what attracted me the most!

AC crunch in the fact too, even if I did not lingered over it ...

Finally the disto ... Bin Day is the slip! Bridge pickup, great attack, great fishing, dynamic shake the house, harmonics fuse, short on gas! variations of attacks are perfectly transcribed, the mic is very responsive to your game: it can be very strong by attacking edge or soft picking, while keeping the accuracy and the definition hallucinating! you can even enter an open agreement and distinguish all the notes! AC actually sends the woods ...
Nice intermediate position, there is the sound of petrucci on Strange Deja Vu (passage with more rhythmic distortion splitters) is usable but less direct as fishing ...
In the heats, it is a treat, the ultimate for a solo ... even teasing the last box, the highs are audible, not aggressive at all, it is round, not AC drool is clear ... beautiful! playing a mere octave can realize the potential: everywhere on the run, any space on any string, the sound is balanced, you distinguish the notes at the same level and you ca décoiffe severe. It's really a listening pleasure!

Note the awesome vibrato, very good feel, précisn holding the agreement ... nothing to do with Floyd nags, it's effective, intuitive and not annoying to change strings!

Excellent sustain, natural harmonics coming out on lots of boxes ... The only downside is the volume difference between the positions 1.3 and 2, the split is less strong but hey it's insignificant.

10, I have not played better for now, and I never took my foot as much play, even in my room!



OVERALL OPINION

I've had it 2 months, I am beginning to know her. I tried many guitars in the genus (luke, Steve Morse, Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, Vigier) but I always had a weakness for petrucci, and after 10 years of waiting I finally got to me pay, a super OCCAZ '.

Pros:
- Ergonomics, it's super comfortable, the neck is a delight!
- Cleans the sounds, I still come back, it's beautiful
- Distos who pull the stern, both in solo rhythmic
- The super vibrato, the best I've tried
- Selector very accessible (but which may obstruct some: /)
- A real quality instrument, not just a luxury, a true guitar pro
- Sustain the required tuning
Cons:
- Really too expensive new, importers are really ....... is abused margins they take
- Investment: you have a really good amp behind the curb on pain (my JVM does not follow at all, I will have to spend more!)

I've never played better, it really is a great tool, but versatile typed, but it can not please everyone ... I remake this choice with your eyes closed, I keep it carefully for many years of pleasure! a true massacre, a must, try to at least once!

When I was hunting for a killer superstrat type guitar, I looked at several options in my sub $2,000 price point. I looked at Ibanez, Jackson USA, ESP, Carvin, all the usual suspects. However, reviews online kept leading me to this one... the USA made Music Man John Petrucci signature model. I'd heard about Music Man before, but had very limited experience with them prior to October of '09 when I purchased my JP6. Now, I'll say that I'm not normally very gung ho about the idea of signature guitars, but this one was definitely an exception. The feature-set is very lucrative for a lead based guitarist like me. Some of the highlights are as follows:

*Basswood body with contoured rib and arm scoops
*Maple neck with rosewood fretboard, 24 frets, and Music Man's proprietary gunstock oil neck finish (extremely fast and smooth, plus it is easy to clean as well!)
*Dual DiMarzio humbuckers (Models from 2005-2009 have the D-Sonic in the bridge and a Petrucci Special in the neck, whereas the models from June 2009 and onward have the Crunch Lab and LiquiFire in those positions.) I've had both sets of pickups in identical JP6s so I will discuss the tonal differences in the sound column.
*Custom designed Music Man recessed two-point tremolo (non-locking)
*Schaller M6 locking tuners
*Music Man compensated nut
*Piezo pickup

The guitar is extremely ergonomic and sits very well on the body. While it is heavier in weight compared to say, the Parker Fly's that I've owned, it's still quite light for a standard superstrat. I've had two of them, a 2007 (NOS) and a 2010. Both were very consistent in their features and general quality, which I think speaks very favourably to Music Man's QC department. All in all, this is definitely a very stellar guitar with a feature-set that allows great versatility with the piezo pickup option, but because of its design, it really allows lead players to flourish and play to their best!

UTILIZATION

As I stated above, the guitar's design is quite ergonomic. It balances very well in sitting or standing positions, and is light enough to not act as an inhibitor to stage antics. The upper fret access is definitely a high point (pun intended) overall. When I would go to play a fast run covering the whole of the fretboard, I never had to worry about my hand hitting a neck joint.. it would just glide to the top. Obviously the system wasn't FLAWLESS (being that the guitar was a bolt on), but as far as upper fret access, I had no real problems with either of my JPs.

Possibly the best feature of the neck is the finish. Music Man uses a proprietary blend of gunstock oil and wax to finish their necks, and the end result is a slick and EXTREMELY comfortable neck to play on! This finish, combined with a thinner but manageable neck profile really allowed my fingers to fly about the fretboard. It really made for a killer playability experience overall... and it's definitely one of the biggest, if not the biggest, selling points of the JP6 (or even other EBMM guitars in general.)

The other big point about this guitar is the tones that it offers. The JP has a custom wiring scheme that is optimized to offer maximum performance from minimal controls. On the magnetic side, there is a volume, tone, and a 3 way toggle switch. The switch offers three sounds which are different from the typical 3 way setup in one big way. You have your standard neck and bridge pickup settings, but the middle position is actually the inner coil of each humbucker. This provides a very "jangly" sort of tone that has less output, so it allows you to get good cleans just by hitting the toggle and the channel switcher on your amp, as opposed to having to coil tap your humbucker or engage parallel wiring. If this wasn't enough, you've got the option of a piezo pickup. For those who don't know, a piezo pickup is a design that allows very acoustic-like tones. To activate this, there is a second 3 way toggle that selects magnetic signal, piezo signal, or both mixed together (a very unique sound to be sure.) But wait, there's even more! The JP has two 1/4" jacks. One of them is stereo to allow use of the piezo, and the other is magnetic only. What this allows you to do is use the piezo toggle as a kill-switch of sorts... which I found quite cool to have!

All in all, this is definitely an extremely versatile instrument that allows a whole variety of tones with very minimal controls which is definitely a great thing!

SOUNDS

This guitar, being designed for John Petrucci, is obviously going to excel at the sorts of tones that he uses. I'm not a HUGE Dream Theater fan, but I definitely go for a similar tone/rig setup to John's. When I purchased the guitar, I was using a Mesa Boogie Mark III (green stripe) head and a Basson Sound B212 speaker cabinet with Emience Legend drivers. All in all, I was able to get excellent clean, mid-gain, and higher gain settings (more specifically on the 2010 model.) Being that I owned two Petrucci's made three years apart, I have had experience with both sets of the pickups used in the guitars from 2005 onwards.

2007 JP6 - I found the Petrucci Special neck pickup to be extremely smooth and vocal like. It had medium output, so I found that it cleaned up very well using the volume control on the guitar, but it also took gobs of gain quite well. I used it only for lead passages or clean tones, relying on the bridge pickup for all of my rhythm based sounds. The D-Sonic was a fairly hot pickup... though it didn't have absurd amounts of output. I found it to be a bit more sterile on the cleaner and low gain type of sounds, which was something that I didn't care for. The higher gain tones were nice, but I found that it didn't have the tightness that I was looking for (I found it to be more of a looser vintage vibe, but still with lots of output available.) It's definitely a great sounding pickup, just not for the modern high gain type of tone that I expected it to do.

2010 JP6 - The LiquiFire neck pickup carries on where the JP Special left off. It retains a lot of the liquid like quality of the JP Special (hence the name), but I found that it had a little more output overall and seemed to have a little more kick to the sound. I found myself using it in the same manner that I had the JP Special, but I was trying different settings (IE: Less gain, more high end, etc) with better results. The Crunch Lab is what I expected the D-Sonic to be. It had a tighter attack and took high gain a lot better. Where the D-Sonic might have gone a little bit muddy, the Crunch Lab stayed nice and chunky, even at very high gain settings. All in all I felt these pickups were certainly an improvement over the JP Special and D-Sonic due to the fact that they simply sounded more like the pickups I expected from a John Petrucci signature guitar.

Being that the current production models (from June 2009 onwards) have these new pickups, I have no problem recommending a new JP6 to someone who really wants a great modern sounding superstrat.

OVERALL OPINION

When I was shopping, I tried various "mass production" guitars from Ibanez, Jackson USA, and Fender, and looked into guitars by companies like Carvin, ESP, or Parker (I own a Fly Deluxe, so I considered complimenting it with a NiteFly or another USA Fly.) However, in my seaching online, I kept coming across Music Man, Music Man, Music Man. It was my first foray into the "boutique" world and I haven't looked back since. The Music Man guitars have a great thing going for them. Sterling Ball is notorious for his stance on quality control, and I can safely say (having owned two JPs and played numerous JPs, Axis' and Silhouettes) that it's all for something. The guitars are extremely consistent and play/feel like very few others do and that's a great selling point. The Mystic Dream flip/flop finish is really eye catching and really made me stand out on stage in any setting, which was great as well.

My only real caveat with the guitar was a personal one, and that was the fact that it said John Petrucci on it. I'm not JP, so it felt very odd to have a guitar with his name on it. Ultimately it sort of limited me, as I found myself playing mainly Dream Theater type riffs or JP type lead lines. Obviously this would be more of a psychological thing, but in the end it was a bit frustrating. The other thing of note is that EBMM guitars almost always develop paint cracks by the neck pocket. At first I was scared and thought they were wood cracks, so I arranged to have a replacement guitar shipped in via my dealer. However, after doing research I realized that they were finish cracks only. It's nothing to worry about structurally, but it is an annoyance for sure, and you would think that Music Man would make inroads to fix it in some way... ah well.

All in all, the EBMM JP6 is truly an awesome "shredder's" guitar. It has a killer design, great neck profile with that gunstock oil/wax blend finish, plus now it has been updated with the stellar DiMarzio LiquiFire and Crunch Lab humbuckers. A great guitar that I would surely buy again if I was in the market for that specific type of guitar. However, I realized that a Les Paul was more my speed, so I no longer own one.

This is an American made, signature series guitar. This is a signature guitar of John Petrucci, guitarist extraordinaire for prog-rock dynasty Dream Theater. It features a vintage tremolo bridge (I haven't seen it anywhere else before, and I'm not too familiar with all of the MusicMan guitars as of right now). It has a basswood body, a maple neck with a rosewood fretboard. It has 24 frets, and 3 pickups (two humbuckers and a piezo). It has a 5-way selector switch, a master volume and two tone knobs.

UTILIZATION

This guitar is pretty easy to play, and I mean that in the best way. I don't think any old amateur is going to play it that well, but any reasonably experienced player is going to have a good time playing it for the sheer sake of playability. The 24 frets, with the enormous cutaway, make top-note shredding a breeze. If there ever was a guitar that was great to set you free to play all along the fretboard, this was it. That being said, playing rhythm sounds that are anything but rock and metal is a chore, mainly because of the way the guitar is setup. Everything is stable with the model I tried, and it's not too heavy and it's pretty ergonomic.

SOUNDS

Here's where I fell off with this guitar. I think that the guitar suffers from new trends in guitar tones that emerged after the "hair-metal" period of the late 80s. It's got a great natural sustain, sure. The leads almost always sound creamy and are a cinch to play. However, the tone is simply not my cup of tea. When I want to simplify things a bit, and get back to basics by playing some R&B or a Blues tune, or even straightforward rock, I find myself really missing the classics. There really isn't any diversity at all to be found with this guitar. I don't know what I was expecting, Petrucci himself is notorious for monotony, but that's definitely the case here. The clean sounds are pretty lame on their own, a few effects or boosts here sort of help the problem but not really. The distorted sounds are generally only good if you love Eddie Van Halen-wannabes and the guys who followed the trail that he blazed. People in search of soul in their tone should look elsewhere.

OVERALL OPINION

I think that the playability of this guitar is absolutely stellar, and for that alone, it would be very versatile, just because the player would be operating at his peak ability. It's a shame that the design (maybe the basswood, maybe the Piezos) gives it such a lame tone. I doubt anybody would really want this unless they worshipped at the Dream Theater altar. Then again, I guess that's the same for all Signature models anyway. At least I'm pretty sure Petrucci plays this one!

The piezo alone sounds great, even on an electric amp, and it kills with an electro accoustic amp. There are two output jacks (magnetic+piezo - piezo) to make the use of thoses two types of amps possible in live conditions. If i remenber well, if no cable is connected to the piezo output, the signal of piezo and magnetic pickups are mixed together (magnetic+piezo output), otherwise the piezo and magnetic signals are separated
