The Slick Series combines analog modeling with advanced digital techniques such as look-ahead, FIR filtering and High Dynamic Range processing, the latter being usually used in photography to process light and dark tones separately, for higher brightness variations (dynamics).
SlickHDR, which is the first plug-in in this new series, uses this HDR technique to process psycho-acoustic dynamics within a network of three virtual modules, two of them being in stateful saturation, while the third has a “look-ahead” configuration.
Fixed amounts of unprocessed audio signal are then injected into this processor network at several specific points and mixed back into the network output.
The VST 32-bit plug-in is designed to create a detailed image of the perceived sound, fine tune the global sound and the behavior of the release time, or create a balance between global perceived sound and local dynamics.
The SlickHDR is available for free download from varietyofsound.wordpress.com.
