« Great garage/punk drive »
Published on 09/14/11 at 07:59The Karaoke Party is an overdrive/distortion pedal which is designed and built by Devi Ever at Devi Ever Effects/Effector 13. To quote Devi the specifications are as follows:
- true bypass
- mxr sized enclosure
- boutique quality components
- incredibly low mA draw
- silicon transistor based
- 9 volt, 2.1 mm, negative tip power jack
- 9 volt battery snap inside (unscrew the back plate)
This unit is not rackable because it is a stompbox effect with 1/4" input and outputs with a stomp footswitch to engage the effect.
UTILIZATION
This pedal is simple to set up as you just need to plug your guitar into the input and your amp into the output, put a battery inside and you're ready to go. Another reason this pedal is simple to use is because it only has two knobs. One which alters the overall volume of the effect (Volume) and one which alters the character and intensity of the overdrive sound (Control). It's really easy to get a good sound out of this pedal due to these simple controls. During the time I had this effect I didn't ever have it make an unpleasant sound.
SOUND QUALITY
I used this effect with primarily with my squier classic vibe duo sonic guitar and epiphone valve junior amplifier and it worked really well to produce a great punk/garage style drive sound. I also recently used this pedal with my Japanese fender jaguar and marshall JCM800 and again it was perfect for a punk/garage type sound. It produces a very nice trebly drive sound without being nasally and harsh.
My favorite setting is with the Control knob set to about 3/4 and the Volume adjusted to unity to provide a nice overdrive sound.
OVERALL OPINION
My favourite thing about this pedal is the simplicity of operation.
I'd say it's a great pedal for the price and the main suggestion I'd make if you were considering this pedal is to check out the Devistortion pedal made by Devi as it's the Electric Brown and Karaoke Party together in one box which gives you a great amount versatility for overdrive and distortion sounds.
