cubase sync problem using tascam US122

I've been trying to hook up my Tascam US122 to cubase 2.01, but damn!!! It seems inpossible to get the sync right!!! After opening a new project, then just hitting play, the metromome is not consistent. Since I've tried every possible setting during the last 3 days without success, does anyone recognise this problem?
Any help would be welcome.
