HI,
some monitor speakers can be used horizontaly like the yamaha ns-10
There is no real benefit to gain unless they are especialy designed for the job.
Normally use them vetically and place the speakers with the tweeters at ear level, that is in your listening position.
Some speakers will give a complete diffent linear picture placed on their side, so?
Do the test and judge for yourself.

well if the are near field monitors, you would want them aimed at your ears and how far away you sit should be approx how far the speakers are apart...
lotsa variables

So, place them horizontally if:
a) the speaker's manufacturer tells you to
b) you want to mess up the spaker's responce
c) your room is aufully low (?)
And don't forget the thing about the triangle... Gee...

What kind of triangle though?
I see no real advantage putting your computer monitor on it's side. It'd be kind of hard to read and you probably would have some issues on keeping it from wobbling.
