As for the REV 7 is primarily a reflection, however, as with its predecessor, the effects of different chorus, phaser and flanger, which were added the effects of Symphony (a kind of chorus deeper), but also the effects of tonal transpositions of two voices + / - 12 semitones and an auto-pan effect.
As for the REV 7 it has a semi-parametric equalizer 3-band analog post-effective to catch a very practical problem of brightness and / or nasal medium such as a jiffy. Well it did not look like much, but in some cases it saves lives ..
The wiring is in this XLR (balanced) or 6.35 mm jack (unbalanced) pairs, since the REV 5 is stereo .. Important, if you use it with a starting mono and therefore you connect only the "input A" it will be essential trigger the switch "Mono / Stereo" present position single front or you will signal on a two out ..
The types of reverbs available are classic:
Hall
Room
Vocal
Spring
Reverse
Gate
Program delays and echoes (L, C, R) with a time resolution up to 2900 ms. Programs and always surprising to "Early Reflection", these are the first reflections you hear after the direct sound and reverberation before itself. These signals are those that allow, among other things, the brain to "feel" the size and nature of local acoustic .. A classic Yamaha and still amazingly effective!
I move very quickly on the parameters constituents editing programs, is available from the other 60 RT (99 s max), pre-delay (1000 ms), the level of early reflections (center, right and left) the density of these, the ratio RT acute and low ..
Like its predecessor, the REV 5 is remote controllable by wired remote.

UTILIZATION

Again as with the REV 7, the control layout is perfect and rational, however there have been some modifications to it: the switch "Phase Out" has been replaced by "Int Param" giving access additional parameters, F1, F2 and F3 have been replaced by "Level" (no comment ..), "1st Ref" (early reflections) and "EQ ON" control setting according to the digital equalizer board (post-effects). Giving it, I think, an even more intuitive. Moreover, small brackets, other manufacturers would do well to learn is to model the ergonomics!
We can even use the remote control (RC 5) supplied with the machine, that said, it is quite impractical because the remote does not have control screen, you must still have an eye on the REV 5 if it is quickly dropped. This remote home sleeps sweetly in a drawer ..

SOUND QUALITY

Compared to the REV 7, is modeled is much more dynamic and breath a little less, long reverb programs are better (less metal), though still cold enough, it's not a Lexicon or Tc ..
The rooms are quite successful very dense and hard, so they will not fit all purposes, I use them mainly for percussion ..
And reverses the gates are quite well and allow to grow some good sources so unnatural.
The special effects of modulations (chorus, phaser etc. ..) are more or less anecdotal, but not zero either, say they are not incredibly effective ..
The effects of tonal transposition are against very, very successful as the SPX range, and in my humble opinion, better to find you have to go home Eventide!
The real highlight of this Yamaha is without doubt the effects of "Early Reflection" that can magically and three strokes of the ladle, to remove or close a source in a mix, it's really the greatest success of this machine.

OVERALL OPINION

Here is a reverb considered an obsolete machine outdated view, but a few of ergonomics programs and "perfect" really make a machine always interesting. And as such, as for other older models I do not separate for now.
