Beyerdynamic DT 880

I first purchased these almost 5 years ago and they've been my "daily driver" since then. One of the most important aspects I was looking for in a set of headphones was comfort. Prior to these, I owned a pair of Grado SR60is and while they were okay sound quality wise, there were murdering my ears. I wear headphones for hours a day, so I wanted something very comfortable. The DT880s fulfill that desire. The clamping force is just right, the headband isn't noticeable, the set is fairly light and the pads are soft. It's easy to not notice they're on your head.

I listen to a large variety of music ranging from things like House, Drum and Bass, and Garage to Bossa Nova and Jazz to hardcore punk, post-punk, etc. I don’t feel like there’s any genre where the DT880s are particularly weak. Some may find the bass a bit light for some of the more bass heavy electronic genres, but I’ve never felt like the DT880s were “missing” the bass, so much as not over emphasizing it. It still conveys things like sub-bass well, even if it’s not rattling your jaw.

The sonic character of the DT880s is very clear and analytical. In addition to music listening, I also use the set for sound design and music production so I wanted a pair of headphones that were very revealing and I’d say the DT880s are excellent in this aspect. They are a little trebly, which can result in some sibilance with things like female vocals. The DT880s also have a fairly decent soundstage giving music, movies, and games stereo width.

Ultimately, in this price range, I haven’t seen another pair that quite ticks all my boxes like these. If I were to go back in time knowing what I know now and shop for a pair of headphones in this price range, I’d still pick up the DT880s.

The BeyerDynamic DT 880's are a great pair of high end studio headphones. They're definitely best suited for studio and general listening use, but they're so good that they can be useful for use of any kind. The studio I work at just picked up a pair of these and I'm glad we've got them as they're really something special and are some of the best headphones I've used in a while. Beyond use in recording studios, they're also designed for hi-fi stereo listening purposes. They've got a semi open back, but block out enough sound that you shouldn't experience too much bleed with them for recording vocals. The DT 880's also come in a few different versions, as the ohmage varies between a few different models. We've also got a pair of DT 770's at the studio, which have a completely closed back. It's nice to have the option, but depending on what you're using them for I don't think it's going to make all the difference in the world. I really enjoy the well rounded sound of the DT 880's as they seem to cover as much ground as a pair of headphones could. It's like a sonic landscape when you put them on as they consume you with a clear picture of what you're listening to. They're also incredibly comfortable headphones as they're super soft, which is something that's usually lacking with headphones. To get the BeyerDynamic DT 880's it's going to cost you a pretty penny, but if you're after a set of hi fi headphones that you can use for a lifetime on a consistent basis, the DT 880's should be in the discussion without a doubt. While most won't be able to afford these, for those who can they're a real treat to have in any setup.

How long have you use it?

I use it for a few days, so it will be a review hot, like the first impression, perhaps premature. I never write an opinion or rarely, but now I want because it's a kind of revelation guys.

Have you tried many other models before buying it?

I tried all sorts of old crusts and the best tricks and finally the average premium. I have 5 years an AKG K271 MK1 and I really like 2 years a Sennheiser HD25 I like when I travel light. I shod, since, on my Sony MDR zoreilles of 7506, Beyer DT 770, Sennheiser I do not know what, AKG K171, Audio Technica ATHM-50 and nothing was so excited over headphones already in my possession even if these headphones are very good (with the exception of Sony, which is loud, aggressive and tiring).

What is so special that you love the most, least?

The DT 880 is a semi-open headphones, and then, finally, his breath against my AKG and especially my HD sounds like 25 or 2D. Ah yes, the sound is in my mind wanders into 6 distinct axes and variables: left-right, top-bottom, front to back. I feel like I'm on drugs ... is completely spatial. Comes with a leather case like the most beautiful effect nerd SM, velvet pads so its really, but then, very, very sweet, loving kittens as if two are coiling around my lobes. Yeah, and I can tell you that it purrs and more. Not really the definition is amazing, it's the very ultimate THE headphone I needed to supplement my monitors Dynaudios BM5A until further notice, of course.

Analytical and critical when an unforgivably bad thing is recorded or mixed, it reveals: breath, wow, saturation, sharp screaming, fuzzy or aggressive mediums, reverbs dégueus or too long, poorly compressed mp3 artifacts. And when recorded music is produced, what a treat, I would report the night! I listen to stuff from one hundred to fifty three days: how, why have I not heard before those details? As for bass, I think he has just the right dose.

I took the 32 Ohms, to be sure you have enough potatoes on multiple systems. Here I mainly used the headphone output of my card ULN2 Metric Halo, which has a preamp phones off-road and I notice that you still have a lot to attack the knob to get a reasonable gain: that is is to say halfway to the audio already mastered. It confirms my choice of this impedance. On an iphone it's good too though. The 250 version is not recommended matondit Ohms and 600 Ohms version is excellent with a headphone preamp serious audiophile type of out-of-cost. Ben is in good plugger on my sound card in my case, then hop, 32 Ohms.

How would you rate the quality / price?

I paid just under 200 zeuros and I think it's worth it. By reading the previous opinion, I care a little bit of longevity, but knock on wood and Inshallah.

With experience, you do again this choice?

Can we speak of experience after 3 days of use? No, of course, but to have used and tried other models, I think this headphone is really a good horse. To help you form an opinion, here again what I can learn about me, for what it's worth: it's been 5-6 years since I made the recording and mixing in the studio with sound engineers or alone at home when they call me, my hearing is preserved and I get angry very quickly when it sounds bad.
