«  Very good, but hard to tame »

Published on 08/05/13 at 16:55
Tube preamp with 3 channels. The lead is actually a second crunch with a different voicing.
I had this pedal with the new diet, apparently more reliable than the previous ones.
An EQ for clear, an EQ for the other two channels each of which has still a gain and a volume each.
Output "mix" or "amp" switchable.

UTILIZATION

I also want to mention the consumption of the pedal: 600mA enough actually ... However I must use 900mA (three out of my t-rex juicy lucy) for not breath due to a lack of power. If you decide to incorporate the AMT in your pedalboard, so plan necessarily a beefy power supply. So I bought the juicy lucy (my torpedo and amt) I combined with a harley benton jr powerplant to power the rest of my pedals. it weighs, but it's reliable and I prefer that.

SOUNDS

So I first tried the AMT live with out "mix". Rather nice, active until a channel other than the clear ... Then, with the torpedo I had problems breathing, and treble too garish.
It took:
- I change the lamps. I installed a 12AX7WA Sovtek and JJ Tesla ECC83S. No more screaming highs, hello fullness, dynamics, with finally a flattering to my ears sound.
- I feed the pedal but not with 600mA 900mA with (much breath disappears).
- I use the exit "mix" not out "amp". The mix output is a kind of EQ with a drastic decline in the volume of output. Finally, use the AMT and allowed me to avoid as much breath.

OVERALL OPINION

I failed several times to sell. Fortunately not, because now I have enough extra sound.
I play with headphones and AMT, combined with the Torpedo, gives me a sound that I never expected to get playing in my corner, under these conditions. It is also extra records, connections in the sound, etc..

Two comments:
- You really need to consider changing the original lamps, and at least opt for JJ ECC83S to erase the shrill treble side.
- Since I changed lamps, treble boost / medium seem more functional ... weird. However they were quite useless, unless you want to pierce my ears, so it is not very serious (and apart from that, it seems pretty solid and reliable) :)

I recommend this pedal. Not easy to tame, but can be much better, because it will adapt to different contexts (an amp effect loop, torpedo, etc.). It is now essential part of my pedalboard. AMT thank you ;)
