« An almost flawless ... »
Published on 12/31/10 at 05:15I bought this small (in size) sound card / controller / preamp to complete a semi nomadic DAW: I mean a piece of furniture moved without any worries in the house, according to my recording needs and family obligations. .. Well characteristics of AK1 are perfect for that.
The case is compact, solid and seems very well finished. Nothing wrong with the level of connectivity, all exudes seriousness.
UTILIZATION
Drivers ... Yeah, it's not his forte, but once the proper config found, and we must spend time there, all is stable. I have no unwanted noises, or whatever, and my projects in Reaper, which are never either shielded from dozens of tracks and plugs, all rotate perfectly.
GETTING STARTED
Installation is not too problematic, but I have a real cons incompatibility with my wireless card, which is yet to PCI. So I disable when I work on my pieces, on the other hand to listen to something on the net, we must accept the drop outs. So it's pretty average.
OVERALL OPINION
I use it for a few weeks and now I feel much better known. The first thing to note is the high quality of the preamp: no wind, good headroom, excellent sound reproduction. Compared to the stuff I've ever had, is above the preamp of the Konnekt 6, very different from the Mindprint Trio (which has more character but is much louder), much better than the preamp basic tube style pre VTB1 and perhaps even (according to my amateur ears) thinner than DMP3 from M Audio.
I am also impressed by the converters, the sound coming out of this box is punchy, very well defined.
So, stock, equipment really excellent, and apart from this incompatibility problem with my wireless card, with a little patience (there is ever a time when I almost sell because I could not find the right configuration) .
