Hello,

I received the software ivory with just a few days and here are my impressions:

Pros:

The sound quality is at the appointment, I particularly like the sound of Steinway.

The software can adapt to the moderately powerful machines. I can play properly on my Dell Inspiron 8500 (Pentium M 2.2 GHz and 1024 MB of RAM) by selecting one of the Steinway of 6 layers (instead of 10) and removing some samples:
- The samples called "release samples" (whose role remains to be defined because I hear no difference when playing enabled)
- Samples of the soft pedal that serve absolutely no purpose if we do not have this pedal.
It should also limit the polyphony of the software but this function does not block. Set at 16 tracks, I can still play arpeggios with sustain pedal without hearing cutoff at some notes.
For information, there is a sound with just four velocity layers still uses less but it sounds cooler in the register ppp and pp samples because they are the softest that appear to have been removed.
Cons:

When played on a real piano, no sound if you press gently on the keys which is not the case with ivory. I will also contact the team Synthogy about it because there is surely something that can be improved.

The system of sympathetic resonance is not yet fully developed.
I just read elsewhere on this site a test that compares The Grand 2 and Akoustik Piano and it highlights the same problem also for these two software piano.

Conclusion:

I enjoyed playing with this software, the samples are really quality. I do not regret my purchase. However, the sensations are not the same as with a real acoustic piano especially with the notes played very slowly. The resonances of the strings between them are, in my opinion, not appointment.

Finally, nothing can replace a real piano. But if on stage at a jazz concert, for example with other musicians, I had to choose between an acoustic piano right (do not ask too much either!) Sound system with modest means and ivory, I think I would lean more to ivory. Again, the feeling when the game will be not as nice but the sound coming out of the final Bafle will be more pleasant to listen to the hearing.

Voià say it all.

Musically,

Olivier.
