« A good machine M3 88 »
Published on 03/04/13 at 19:28M3 88: A good machine
It is clear that a machine like the Korg M3 is a little part of type "heavy artillery" - in every sense of the word because the weight of the machine is sturdy.
Have 88 notes is a choice we did not regret the keyboard and the M3 is good. I also regret to see after buying a Kronos 73 ratings.
To me, the great interest of the machines as the M3 or Kronos is the integrated drum, which is not found in most of its competitors.
Also note that the eight pads allow experiments very interesting especially with chords ... - Pads that we regret the Kronos, even if you can get the same thing with an external NANOPAD.
Connectivity, it is very good. With 6 ouputs can send sounds to internal independent channels, which is valuable when you have a mixer.
There are also two inputs. It can route external sounds in the M3 and enjoy the multiple effects such as delay, reverb, phaser, chorus, etc etc..
UTILIZATION
The machine is a bit complicated but once you know how to navigate windows and pages of parameters, we begin to see the end of the tunnel.
But it is certain that we must spend a long time to read the manual to understand the enormous potential of this machine. Because almost everything is customizable. Say, complex side, I've seen much worse on much smaller machines. So we can say that Korg are still a good job as a programmer.
And the manual is clear. But the full manual settings available only in English.
SOUNDS
As mentioned above, the great interest of the machines as the M3 or Kronos is the integrated drum, which is not found in most of its competitors. The Karma system is quite efficient and provides good ideas but ... right! you can not use all the sauces and change it often takes many parameters to achieve QQH really musical. But, some surprises are pleasant to hear. But despite its flexibility, it remains a kind of sophisticated arpeggiator. But, against, for drums and percussion, this is definitely a "plus". But the sounds of drums Kronos are a notch higher in terms of sound.
Banks M3 sounds, like those of Kronos, are very large and are oriented more "electro" or "progressive". (Note, however, that the Kronos has a fan a bit noisy and cheap components more than the M3). Roland, for example, are known to be much closer to natural sounds, if you search more sounds of violins, brass, flute, etc.
OVERALL OPINION
I have since 2008, I believe, and I am much attached. This is the kind of machine that can take a long time to turn. What I like least is the time it takes to find and often go to "create" the set-up of instruments you want. But this problem is not unique to the M3, since today is the case with all the machines that offer many possibilities.
In 2007, I would do this choice. But now, it is clear that the Kronos is more advanced. But banks M3 sounds very well and still current. There are even some banks of sounds, guitars and others who are not on the Kronos ... and the difference in quality of sound banks between M3 and Kronos is not always clear, except for some acoustic pianos and percussion.
