Size of the monitors, response threshold at low frequencies, available for front vents, possible adjustments to adapt the response of the speakers to the acoustic completely rotten in the closet that serves as my home studio, woofer + tweeter 1 inch 6-inch connection varied.
Bill strong.
Close monitoring of low-volume Trip Hop, percussion and piano.
Connected at the output of an M-Audio Delta 1010 LT
SOUNDS
Good midrange and bass response (PR 6 for 6 inches, which makes the fine and the Tapco S5 Fostex PM 0.5) the sounds are very dynamic (where the S5 are too round and a little short on PM 0.5).
Good treble response (a chouillat too well).
Stereo fairly strong (effect of spatial impressive mix)
Clean sounds (highlights the encoding of many of my crappy Mix and MP3), the bass does not drool.
For this price, and not forgetting the need to compromise when you type in this Cathegory, the dynamic is correct, not aggressive (€ 470 in Lyon)
OVERALL OPINION
They are running, I will return in a few months to confirm or refute my first impressions.
A trial in the same store:
- Tapco s5 (very low round but limited (bass seemed to lack a soul, mediums drooling (with a trough at the top), acute correct)
- Fostex PM0.5 (bass "hard" mediums with better defined than the S5, treble responded better, the image is very impressive for their size but the definition of low is too limited for my needs)
- Alesis m1 mk2 (big bass and low mids, which eat up the rest of the spectrum = boiled)
- M6 has (to get an idea of what happens: impressive .... but too expensive)
- Fostex PM1 (too much bass, but excellent for the rest of the spectrum (I missed 100 € 25m ² to enable them to me)
- Tapco s8 (comparable with the previous rear vents, still impressive)
- KRK RP5 (no bass, treble harsh, headache guaranteed ...)
- Studiophile BX5 (low imprecise, mediums flattering -> to avoid)
In fact fall between the RP6 and s5/PM0.5 S8/PM1 (whether in terms of price and sound image so good compromise quality / price ratio).
It is strange that they do not appear more often in homes French studio. All opinions found on these animals are in English, it's a shame, they are worth their price.
Back after three months of intensive use:
No significant surprise, an overall operation entirely consistent with low volume these speakers have a sound power voume impressive high. Single point crap, they are not armored.
I stay on my first sense: they are between the pm0.5 (and similar) and pm1 (same woofer 8 ")
