Published on 08/03/12 at 09:49They came out, white like the NS10 woofer, I thought banco.
I use them to compose, and pre-mix or Laying out my songs before leaving to be finalized in the studio.
They are out of my Lexicon I-ONIX U42S.
SOUNDS
I have not encountered any difficulty to adapt to their sound, which I find completely neutral and reliable.
However, I used them in three different areas in proximity unfortunately without any acoustic treatment (room and living room, studio and 18m2) to As removal and disappointments of my sentimental, so I can not give a definitive opinion above.
But is better to have a miniumum of 1m from the listening position, what I did by putting them on stands behind my desk Thomann. They are obviously designed to mix comfortable booths, so if one is too close, the sound perceived depends on the distance too. For example, if I turn on my computer to read a mini-trick on my screen, it does not sound at all like that if I hold it right into my chair to take a step back.
Moreover, they have low. What is a problem if space is not worked acoustically. This is the studio monitors, not pregnant apartment. So if you have parallel walls (99% of cases), floor and ceiling heavy parallelism (99.9% of cases), I remind you that you made in the low will always be some pitiful speakers used: resonances of the room , attenuation of certain frequencies of 30dB without problems with their harmonics, increase 6dB other frequencies, bass depending on your listening position in the room, etc. ...
OVERALL OPINION
I use them for 5 years, along with a pair of Fostex PM 0.4
Small Fostex work very well in very small proximity (to each side of my screen), and work best with Yamaha more perspective, depth and power.
My opinion may seem mixed, but this is not the case. Understand me: what I said is that the treatment room acoustics is crucial is the real weak link in the Home Studio.
One day when I have sold many of immateriality, I claquerai between 5 and 20 000 Euros architect, walls, ceilings, absorbers, diffusers, ventilation ...
In the meantime, I leave the final processing of my songs take place in a space that is dedicated to mixing and listening states.
