I wanted monitoring speakers (active) to mix mainly amateur rock. I was looking for good speakers that allow me to make a mix as neutral as possible. I'm ready! I improved my performance significantly in terms of 'quality mix'. The curve of frequency response is excellent. I recommend these over the HS50M - too "light" for my taste. HS50M owners will tell you that the sub-woofer compensates for their lack of presence in the lower spectrum. Why make that choice, while the 80 have, by their boomers with a larger diameter a deeper bass and also more precision.

SOUNDS

At Spectrum level, I could compare them to many models in the same range of course (to KRK, M-Audio etc. ...), they surpass all.

But one must make a choice based on your budget. But in this range, do not hesitate!

The sound is crystalline, the dynamics are excellent, they are neutral and accurate.

When I go through headphones (DT770 pro) I realize their neutrality with respect to the headphone that adds often too low frequency and low-medium.

OVERALL OPINION

I use them now for 3 months.
I was able to significantly improve on my mixes. It is obvious. My Songs now travel well from one installation to another!

EDIT: In hindsight, with more experience on their use, and further review, it is clear that the mixes made on HS80M do not carry as well from one system to another. I guess we will pass into the high end for that.

I'm using it also for listening to music for pleasure. It's funny in the beginning it was almost shocking to be able to collect details that I never hear on a typical system.

Pros: the sound is neutral and well balanced (they request it or almost), the price! (460 € the new pair), the top in this range, reliability, Yamaha.

Cons: it's not my case but beware of the size of the room in which you work (the vent is at the back)! No guard on the boomers (I'm always afraid of damaging them one day).

I put 10/10 as they fulfill their role completely in my case.
