« While implementing its Ipad in his home studio and enjoy a good stability in live »
Published on 03/12/13 at 12:05I use the beast for a year and a half. In fact, I made the decision to buy a Ipad2 the minute I saw the Io Dock.
So far, no regrets.
Protects the iPad dock and gives him a good angle to play comfortably. In addition, it charges the iDevice and, to my knowledge, this is the only in its class to do so.
Midi circuit is extremely stable compared to other solutions and CoreMIDI via wifi. This makes the iPad THE ultimate control surface from the time you invest in a pro app like Lemur. It actually does what you want, it's stable, it crashes again. It is pro.
2 flats related to Usb Midi however:
When using the Usb Midi, you can not use the Midi connections. It's one or the other.
We can not plug a MIDI keyboard in USB without computer.
DIYers can still solve this problem by following this tutorial: http://www.untergeek.de/2013/01/tech-hack-alesis-io-dock-with-usb-hub/
The entire connector audio / Midi Pro, no problem there above: it's solid despite the plastic aspect.
Side audio output, Io Dock gives a good boost to the sounds of the iPad. My friends Ipad owners cry not have such a quality output. However, on that side, can do better in my opinion.
Audio input side, I must say that I am not very satisfied. My poor sound card is better. However, if you use an app converting audio Midi, well then, you begin to burst.
We can read some useful recommendations about audio inputs / outputs at this address: https://ipadloops.com/optimizing-alesis-io-dock-performance/
Well, you guessed it: for me, the rest IoDock the gear it takes to implement its Ipad well in his home studio and enjoy a good stability on stage.
A year and a half after my purchase, I found that active competition. Today, I look towards the latest from IconnectMidi (cheaper and promising!) At this address: https://www.iconnectivity.com/iConnectMIDI2plus
and side of the Roland side: http://www.rolandconnect.com/product_2012-09.php?p=duo-capture_ex&l=fr-FR
Still the last word in favor of Iodock: Apple openly working to make its regularly obsolete iDevices, many IoDocks will be on the market when their owners occaz decide to go on a bike with the new connector, incompatible with the IoDock. Given the stability of the machine, it will not fool IoDock enjoy all these at a discount!
