- A meter to 2 outputs so no master volume management back from the controller

How would you rate the quality / price? With experience, you do again this choice? ...

It was released in 2011 at a price of 1000 euros on Itch, too expensive. Today it can be found at prices ranging price from 300 to 700 euros, a far more decent rate.
If I had to buy a controller, I'd take over the S1, or even the SX or SZ, because the possibilities for live remixes are limited compared Traktor Kontrol S4 at home Native Instruments.


Overall rating:

S1 controller is often forgotten today when he came out there was 3 years old. I went from Wego in H1 and there is no comparison. With a design very CDJ 350 and a host of features, it can make good progress or move from / config CDJ Vinyls smoothly.
Serato is not my favorite but in my case (occasional discomobile) soft, the presence of meter is essential to me so I did not take the T1.
What I miss now is all the new features of the controllers to remix live, I think my Hotcues will soon morfler if it continues (thanks pads) ..

If you have the opportunity to have it used in 500th, go for it!
Above, take a DDJ SR or SX, or go to the competition ie Native.

no controller but I, I already have cdj 800 mk2 djm 800 and 400 and then I go to the vinyl (which I love but bigger) and table I owned xone 92 and 22 so I think know what I mean!

we are well on Pioneer jogs are very accurate the knob and faders are quality deep house I mix it suits me to make me happy especially since I lack in place thereafter I think back on it with good mk2 mix controller is as true on the cdj possessor will mix above will have no trouble with real authority because it is really like the fact I may regret his right to be the time that I button on the djm 800 which permetter doing stuff with really friendly! echo the filter are against top by I suggest you use the latest serato dj rather than itch that is more comprehensive

400 euros OCCAZ I have two cdj 400 djm 350 and I think it's still a good
compromise I do not know if I will remake this choice because the numark ns7 tempts me to its vinyl cd jogs but yes without hesitation

Good ergonomics, many creative possibilities, others have already mentioned. Device while a way you like. intuitive, the controls are spaced clear just what suits me and pleasant except jog which "box empty can." You can let go on using the effects and possibilities of the device.
For less reactivity jog / software controls start / cue loops .... I tried on Mac and PC same result. This is a negative aspect that appears on the console by comparing with the use of a CD player and an HID device dotte Pioneer. This is an aspect that seems often return to the low-end hardware of different vendors. You can not have everything else would not sell Pioneer CDJ 350/850/900/2000, MEP7000 ...
It is the same for the quality of his headphone, or main output. Without saying that this is good or bad (listening is a relative value ...), to give a very personal comparison, it seems better than Pioneer Ergo or Hercules which are lower-end devices. I do not regret my purchase I have fun whether on the electro or 80 you can really do some cool stuff with this little beast

I have this controller for 3 years. (This is why I paid more expensive than it is now)

I start on the dj control mp3 e2 hercules in, then I tried the steel in the same brand, but also VMS2 from American Audio.

- What is the particular feature you like best and least?

The +: I love all of this controller! Sturdy, beautiful, easy to use, with nice function: the right buttons in the right places (this is the pioneer), the slip mode, which allows the superimposition of loops, hot cue, scratch on the same song, without it stops running, the needle search is very convenient, control effects with 2 parameter (level / depth and a second parameter) comes with Serato Itch and now compatible with Serato DJ (some small bug in led with the DJ, but probably will be resolved in a future Update.) 2 microphone jack, 1 above the deck A, and one in front of the controller, with Eq mic and auxiliary!

The - ... Not much blame him! Except perhaps to jog a little "bruillant" (meaning the effect of "rolling", but it is not disturbing) but not being a crazy scratcher, it does not bother me!
The cover really expensive transportation!

Today the price (about € 750-800) the value for money is very good I think! It's been three years that I have and it runs almost every day, no trace of wear visible or audible, it withstand some movement and party! And I intend to keep for a long time!

With experience and time, new controllers are output as the DDJ-SX, I had the opportunity to try, which has more features than the S1, which is why I orienterais today ' hui to the SX, but the SX, I would do this choice eyes closed!

I use a week.

I try a lot of Controller: pioneer ddj ergo, hercules rmx, numark ns7, vestax VCI100, NI Kontrol S2, I also cdj1000 with a pioneer table.

What is nice is that jogs cdj1000 and closer to being able to put the computer below.

BUT its not worth the price at all, it is a little above the ddj ergo and well below the Traktor Kontrol S2, the sound is metallic and lack of heat.

I who seek above all the quality of sound, I find it overpriced.

The Pioneer DDJ-S1 is a controller for Serato and basically on for Serato. I am not sure if it is “officially” compatible with other software’s but I didn’t have good experiences when using it with other software programs like Virtual DJ (and a few others). Also, at first this controller seemed to be price a little too high to me, but after I got my hands on it I could see why it was more expensive. The build of it is very good, it is not made out of cheap plastic materials and provides a great feel for the user.
There are balanced XLR outputs and 2 XLR inputs and ¼ inch Phone to run it to PA equipment if needed. I was using this interface for a few months in 2011 and it never gave me any issues. When using this interface I did notice some small lagging issues via the microphone output when using it. It was a small delay when speaking and most of the time this was not really an issue because it did sound “cool”. But for some this could be a big issue. I have never used this for a major gig, mainly only smaller clubs and bars.
This controller is for the Serato ITCH user and lover. If you are not sure about using Serato ITCH I would not recommend this controller. If you are already familiar with each and love working with it then this controller will suit you perfectly. I do not recommend this to the new user either because it is restricted to Serato, I encourage new users to try a few different programs until they fine one they are comfortable using. The controller is a professional controller though, but it was not for me because I do not use Serato that much anymore like I use to .

I used it for an evening.

Previously I've owned and tested:
- Pioneer CDJ 1000MK2: pure happiness! reactivity flawless!
- Denon DN-S3500: The turntable is a delight, and the effects are easy to swing!
- Torq Xponent: A control surface become very affordable but fragile (false contacts on non-replaceable faders!). on the other hand jogs are accurate and meet almost like a CDJ (mode pitch bend and vinyl on the sides)

On the DDJ-S1:
* Pros:
+ Buttons and faders quality
+ Function slip!
Needle search function + / alphabet
+ Outputs and connections complete
Serato Itch software +

* Cons:
- Plastic look
- Non-sensitive jogs! Must be pressed to stop the song. the risk of premature wear of the pressure sensor is expected to sratcheurs crazy ...
- Noise bearings on jogs just unbearable and unworthy of a table at this price ...
- The DDJ-SX will make it very difficult ...

With experience, I would do this choice certainly not ...
