Best value:
Excellent
Very good vocal microphone, but also versatile instruments, brass, etc.
I put a note 8, for its versatility: it is the micro to do everything, never disappointing, excellent value, and it is indestructible.
OVERALL OPINION
It must be thirty years since I use exclusively, before I turn to other recent pickups:
- Beta 58A: flattering to the singer, bass fishing, insensitive to feedback, but a bump in the midbass, and finally, despite appearances, less faithful than the SM58.
- SM57: I tried it with a pleasant surprise: an incredible fishing, foundry raw attack, but it remains true. In summary, this is THE micro "old school", that must be mastered (plosives beware!), But that will reward you a hundredfold once you know the tame, which is not always easy.
- AKG C535: while there, big surprise: virtually flat in équas an incredible fidelity all passes (including defects), but what a treat for the singer who can pass all its nuances.
So what to conclude?
To each his own microphone, you have to try. And given a microphone will sound differently depending on the room. So it's not a luxury to have several in his briefcase ...
As for the SM58, well ... if you have a microphone, so take that one: no surprises fear
